This guide is for Hitchhikers Guide, the PC version, made by Infocom in 1984. ******** CONTENTS ******** CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION CHAPTER 2 - WALKTHROUGH CHAPTER 3 - ITEM LIST CHAPTER 4 - VERB LIST CHAPTER 5 - END OF DOCUMENT ************************ CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION ************************ Welcome to my first guide for a text adventure game! At first, I played one, I think it was Zork, and thought it was the worst thing ever. It more or less was, but I played it again, and got the hang of it. And I some how, enjoyed it, even for a young person who likes all the NEW games. Although I do play a lot of old NES games for example, I have played some very old games. Yep, this game came out in 1984. That means, chances are, you don't own the original copy of the game, like I don't. Don't panic though (pun intended)! If you go to the website http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game_andrew.shtml you will be able to play the game, FOR FREE. From start to end, even with a online saving system. Neat hey? This isn't the original though. It has graphics for starters, and little buttons to select which direction you want to go to. But, you still have to type every thing in, but there is a small guide on the website. But your here now, STAY AND READ! Hope you enjoy the game, have fun! *********************** CHAPTER 2 - WALKTHROUGH *********************** This is a very simple walkthrough. Because HGTG is a text based adventure game, I can get away with writing a simple guide. Basically, type what I have written in CAPITAL LETTERS, and you should get a full score in the least amount of commands. Simple no? What, its not!? Just type it in OK? HOME: GET UP, TURN ON LIGHT, GET GOWN, WEAR GOWN, LOOK IN POCKET, TAKE PILL, GET ALL, SOUTH, GET JUNK MAIL, SOUTH, STOP BULLDOZER, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, REFUSE TOWEL, REFUSE TOWEL, WAIT, SOUTH, WAIT. OK, so you ONLY typed in the capital letters, not the , and the . right? If so, congrats to you, you should be at the next place, the PUB, with minimal moves and max points thus far? OK, lets continue... PUB: BUY SANDWICH, WAIT, DRINK BEER, DRINK BEER, DRINK BEER, EAST, GIVE SANDWICH TO DOG, NORTH, WAIT, WAIT, GET DEVICE, PRESS HITCHHIKE. DARK: WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, SMELL, LOOK AT SHADOW. VOGON HOLD: EAT PEANUTS, GET TOWEL, REMOVE GOWN, PUT GOWN ON HOOK, PUT TOWEL OVER DRAIN, GET SATCHEL, PUT SATCHEL IN FRONT OF PANEL, PUT JUNK MAIL ON SATCHEL, PRESS DISPENSER BUTTON, GET ALL, DROP SATCHEL, PRESS SWITCH. Pressing the switch will start a recording of: To open the case, type in the # word from the # verse of the captain's current favourite poem. ... Remember the Word and Verse, and write them down or whatever. You need them later on. Good luck in remembering and not cocking the next bit up! WAIT, WAIT, WAIT CAPTAINS QUARTERS: WAIT, WAIT, ENJOY POETRY, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. VOGON HOLD: Type in the WORD you got from the recording. GET PLOTTER, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. AIRLOCK: WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. HEART OF GOLD: WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, HEAR, AFT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, DROP ALL, GET TOWEL, GET GOWN, DOWN, AFT, AFT, AFT, AFT, AFT, AFT. ENGINE ROOM: LOOK, LOOK, GET RASP, GET PLIERS, GET DRIVE, FORE. HEART OF GOLD: FORE, UP, DROP RASP, DROP PLIERS, DROP DRIVE, DROP FLUFF, DOWN, PORT, PRESS PAD, GET TEA SUBSTITUE, OPEN CARTON, GET STRANGE GUN, STARBOARD, UP, DROP TEA SUBSTITUE, DROP STRANGE GUN, PUT DANGLY BIT IN TEA SUBSTITUE, CONNECT SMALL PLUG TO VECTOR PLOTTER, PRESS SWITCH. OK, this next bit is actually a little complicated. Basically, you have to go through 5 different areas. You must collect all the items until your score is 225, when it is, you can go onto the next part, which is again, HEART OF GOLD. First though, I will give a guide for the 5 areas. First you must WAIT four times. When this has been done, type in the sense that is shown. The places you go to are in a random order. When you finish a chapter, WAIT four times, then SOUTH, SOUTH, UP, PRESS SWITCH and you will return to the dark. SEE SENSE, LOOK AT LIGHT, COUNTRY LANE: NORTH, OPEN SATCHEL, GET TOWEL AND FLUFF, OFFER TOWEL TO ARTHUR, IDIOT, WALK TO PROSSER, PROSSER, LIE DOWN, SOUTH, WEST, BUY BEER, BUY PEANUTS, DRINK BEER, DRINK BEER, EAST, NORTH, GIVE FLUFF TO DENT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT. SMELL SENSE, LOOK AT SHADOW, LAIR: SAY ARTHUR, EAST, PUT TOWEL OVER HEAD, GET STONE, CARVE ARTHUR ON MEMORIAL, REMOVE TOWEL, WEST, SOUTHWEST, GET INTERFACE, WAIT. FEEL SENSE, DRINK LIQUID, LIVING ROOM: LOOK AT ARTHUR, DROP WINE, GET FLUFF, OPEN HANDBAG, PUT FLUFF IN HANDBAG, GET WINE, WAIT, WAIT. SEE SENSE, LOOK AT LIGHT, PRESIDENTIAL SPEEDBOAT: LOOK UNDER SEAT, UNLOCK TOOLBOX, PUT FLUFF IN TOOLBOX, GET TOOLBOX, STEER TOWARD SPIRE, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, STAND, OUT, WAIT (for Trillian) GUARDS, DROP RIFLES, TRILLIAN, SHOOT RIFLES, EAST. HEAR SENSE, SOUTH, WAR CHAMBER: GET AWL, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, NORTH (until you reach the black particle) GET PARTICLE. HEART OF GOLD: OK, once you have done all of that, just do this now. WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, HEAR, SOUTH, SOUTH, DOWN, GET TOOLBOX, UP, NORTH, GET SEAT CUSHION FLUFF FROM TOOLBOX, DROP TOOLBOX, OPEN HANDBAG, GET JACKET FLUFF, PUT ALL FLUFF IN POCKET, DOWN, WEST, OPEN PANEL, GET CIRCUIT BOARD, DROP CIRCUIT BOARD, PUT INTERFACE IN PANEL, PRESS PAD, EAST, UP, PUT LARGE CORD IN LARGE RECEPTACLE, WAIT, PRESS SWITCH, DOWN, WEST, GET TEA, GET NO TEA, EAST, UP, REMOVE DANGLY BIT FROM ATS, PUT DANGLY BIT IN TEA, PRESS SWITCH, WAIT (until Feel isn't displayed), FEEL, DRINK LIQUID. INSIDE THE SPERM WHALE: PUT ALL FLUFF IN POT, GET FLOWERPOT, PUT POT IN THING, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, HEAR. HEART OF GOLD: SOUTH, SOUTH, GET POT, UP, WEST, EAT FRUIT, (remember the tool that Marvin asks for), GET TEA, GET NO TEA, GET (tool name) DOWN, SOUTH, OPEN DOOR, DRINK TEA, WEST, MARVIN, OPEN HATCH, EAST, DOWN, DROP ALL EXCEPT (tool name), EAST, WAIT (until Marvin arrives), GIVE (tool name) TO MARVIN, WEST, DOWN. Er, thats it. If you just scrolled through this walkthrough without reading any of it, and thought this game is a bit short, you shall see. It may be short, but can YOU actually complete it without a walkthrough? Its very likely you will need a guide to complete the game. Either ways, congratulations, if was actually playing the game, YOU COMPLETED IT!!! ***************** CHAPTER 3 - ITEMS ***************** Here is a list of the items in the game, wrote in alphabetical order, in big capital letters.
