Because those bars use 100 divisions I could convert the stats to percentages. This was made because I realised different cars reacted differently to the upgrades. (e.g. Golf has a low top speed in stock, but with the Level 3 upgrades it gets a top speed even better than the Dodge) Legend: | CAR NAME: "Car Brand" "Car Model" | | STATS: "Stock Stats" -- "Extreme Performance Stats" | ___________________________ _______________ _______________ _______________ | | | | | | CAR NAME | ACCELERATION | TOP SPEED | HANDLING | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Volkswagen Golf GTI | 004 -- 079 | 004 -- 100 | 022 -- 076 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Honda Civic | 006 -- 084 | 013 -- 096 | 031 -- 077 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Peugeot 206 | 008 -- 084 | 011 -- 093 | 027 -- 078 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Mazda Miata MX-5 | 008 -- 087 | 013 -- 093 | 039 -- 081 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Dodge Neon | 007 -- 093 | 016 -- 093 | 025 -- 070 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX | 012 -- 083 | 034 -- 100 | 032 -- 084 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Toyota Celica GT-S | 014 -- 085 | 025 -- 090 | 038 -- 074 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Mazda RX-7 | 024 -- 086 | 038 -- 100 | 029 -- 071 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Mitsubishi Lancer ES | 004 -- 095 | 008 -- 096 | 018 -- 072 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Ford Focus ZX3 | 005 -- 087 | 011 -- 093 | 030 -- 075 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS | 008 -- 081 | 020 -- 093 | 026 -- 083 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 | 009 -- 083 | 020 -- 095 | 024 -- 073 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V | 010 -- 085 | 025 -- 087 | 021 -- 068 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Nissan 240SX SE | 010 -- 085 | 016 -- 093 | 024 -- 077 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Toyota Supra | 011 -- 084 | 037 -- 100 | 018 -- 075 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Acura RSX Type-S | 012 -- 082 | 032 -- 096 | 026 -- 070 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Acura Integra Type-R | 014 -- 081 | 008 -- 089 | 031 -- 073 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Nissan 350Z | 016 -- 077 | 034 -- 100 | 017 -- 077 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Honda S2000 | 018 -- 072 | 034 -- 100 | 029 -- 073 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| | | | | | | Nissan Skyline R34 GTR | 026 -- 091 | 056 -- 100 | 030 -- 083 | |___________________________|_______________|_______________|_______________| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Bonus Cars ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Bonus cars are not available in Underground Mode. Where are the bonus cars? (Nismo Sentra, VORTEX car, Petey Pablo Car, Mystikal car, Rob Zombie Car, etc.) Bonus cars can only be found in Quick Race. To use them, first select 'Quick Race' from the 'Main Menu', then choose a race type from the six available. Then scroll thru the selection of cars. The name of the bonus car will not be displayed, therefore find the type of car model that the bonus ride belongs to. (e.g. the Nismo Sentra will only have the text 'Nissan Sentra' displayed on the top right, don't go looking for Nismo Sentra!) If you still can't find it, wait for the car to appear in view (you will hear the roar of an engine). If you look carefully, the car will not be in one plain color but have a unique vinyl on it (customization). Else the car selected is not the bonus car. You will have to scroll through the list to find the other car (with the same model name). It should be close to the end of the list if you scroll all the way to the right. For example, the Nismo Sentra will have the text 'Nissan Sentra' on the top right of the screen, but if you wait for the car to appear the text 'Nismo' and some Japanese characters can be seen on the side of the car. If you still can't find the bonus car you're looking for, go through the style rewards list to make sure that you've unlocked the particular car first. Note: bonus cars are not available in Underground Mode. I can't stress that enough. Refer to the Cars section for a complete list of unlockable bonus cars in NFS:U. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Underground Mode - Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Note: Although Style Rewards can be acquired in any race, I've included them in the order in which I've unlocked it. I may update this to reflect the unlockables correctly in the near future. The Race Victory Rewards are correct) (Note: Style Rewards removed from Underground Mode. Created a new section for Style Rewards. Please refer to that section for a complete list of unlockable Style Rewards) If you're interested in decking your car with some sweets vinyls before diving into UG Mode proper, please refer to the Unlocking Style Rewards section for some tips. Note that bonus cars earned by unlocking style rewards cannot be used in UG Mode, only vinyls. In regards to rewards, playing most of the challenges in Underground Mode at Medium Difficulty up to the last twenty races or so should be enough to net you the necessary credits in your account for all your upgrade needs. Although don't let that hinder you from playing a few races at easy since some challenges really do need luck to complete (and an ample amount of tries, too). Of course, if you have plans to swap parts often during the course of the career mode, you might find that the credits earned will not cover all your modification needs. For example, changing parts or cars every few races might be fun, but your account credit limits the number of times you're able to do this. Playing through UG mode at Hard Difficulty will get you more greens, but be informed that once you have completed all 112 challenges the car you've been using cannot be modified anymore and customizations to other cars for quick races do not require credits (as long as you've unlocked those parts, they're ready for selection). If you're aiming to unlock magazine covers, you need to go at the Underground Mode on Hard Difficulty. Some covers can only be unlocked by beating the best time/score in Career Mode, although once you have earned a particular cover, there's nothing to stop you from taking on other challenges of that type on any difficulty setting. Refer to the Best Times/Scores section for a complete list of track records to beat in order to earn magazine covers no. 20 - 23. During the Underground Mode, you will encounter the following challenges: ----- Drift ----- "Slide with style to score big points" Gain points by showing off your drifting skills. GAIN x2 WITH 200, GAIN x3 WITH 800, GAIN x4 WITH 2400, GAIN x5 WITH 6400/8000/9600, MAXXXED, etc.. Complete Chained Drifts to gain more bonuses. - Score points by doing Good Drifts, Great Drift, Chained Drifts, Clean Laps, etc. - Avoid losing points through Wall Impacts. ---------- Tournament ---------- 1st - 8pts, 2nd 6pts, 3rd 4pts, 4th 2pts "The player with the most points at the end of the tournament wins." ------ Sprint ------ "Race from point A to point B" Be the first to the finish line! ---- Drag ---- "Straight line, flat out racing" "Tap the directional key left or right to change lanes during a drag race" Warning: Do not attempt to do a drag race on a street with traffic! You'd be crazy to try something like that! Obviously this advice is not heeded here... Lap Knock-Out ------------- "Last-place car on each lap is eliminated" Circuit ------- "Multi-lap racing against three opponents" -------------------- Initiation Challenge -------------------- "Welcome to Underground Mode! Your racing career starts here. Take on the toughest drivers on the street and prove you are the ultimate racer. Winners earn cool unlocks and upgrades. Losers go home." You will be loaned the Vortex car to race in. This challenge is the only race in Underground Mode in which you'll be able to use a bonus car. Also, the ride is equipped with Nitrous Boost. (cutscene) After the cutscene you will be given a selection of five cars to choose from to use in Underground Mode. You can refer to the 'cars' section for some stats on these rides to help you make your choice. "Ouch. That is seriously weak, dude." You'll get in four heats before the night's out. 3750/5000/6250 Traffic: Yes Jet (Impreza), Nesto (Neon), Spin (Integra) You might want to play this tournament on Hard difficulty. There's a gap of 1250 credits compared to Normal and Easy, and that's quite a bit you can earn to make up ground assuming that you've completed earlier races on an easier difficulty setting. There's no need to complete all races in 1st place, just the finish the first few at the top of the podium to open up a bit of gap and then finish up the last race on second or third placing is fine. The objective is to win the tournament and not finish 1st on all tracks; you'll still get the same rewards irrespective of your finish. If you're not planning on earning extra in preparation for heavy customizations, then playing it on Medium or Easy difficulty is good enough. Concentrate on your shifts, grab the win, and claim 6th place in the rankings. 1125/1500/1875 Tips: As there's no traffic, you could use some nasty tactics to win this race. Get up to a good speed ahead of everyone else, then keep an eye behind your back (use the Back View button) and prevent them from overtaking you. No worries about crashing into cars with your head turned. (Far Camera mode only) Alternatively you can race in Bumper Cam mode and turn on the Rear View Mirror option in the Display Menu (under Options). The key to winning this race is that none of your opponents should be ahead of you once you get the head start, else it'll be very difficult to catch up to them. Getting upgrades that increases acceleration should help, although it could backfire due to the perfect AI logic incorporated. If upgrading doesn't work, the downgrade trick from Challenge 86 might be applicable here too. Style Reward: "Congratulations! You went through 85 challenges without a sweat. Now it's time to test your mad skillz. The best comparison I can think of for this level is that it's as close as you get to an end level boss in a racing game. Lots of people had problems beating that RX-7/Impreza to the finish line. Not that the traffic have been helpful. If you're totally frustrated by this stage, here's a tip. Downgrade your Engine/Exhaust, Drivetrain, and E.C.U. Packages to Stock. Then try that race again. Odds are you'll get a 1st place finish after an attempt or two. Best explanation I can offer is that your opponents are handicapped if your ride ain't the fastest. This trick should work too if you opt to change the car model instead of doing downgrades, for example a Skyline to a Civic. Do everything you can to downgrade the top speed. If you're having problems navigating through the tunnel: While entering this tunnel, keep to the right lane if possible. When you're close to the 90 degree turn, drive straight on so you end up on the left lane. You may have to brake a little during this part. Then try and change to the right lane. TJ's Unique Reward: Weight Reduction Kits, Brake Kits, Drivetrain Packages, Tires, Suspension Package, Turbo Package, Nitrous Oxide The next three challenges can be played in any order: ------------------------ Draggin' Slayer (97/111) ------------------------ Drag, Commercial Reverse The Low-down: Number 2's gotta happen if you want a shot at being the champ on the straight. 2250/3000/3750 Race Victory Reward: unlock Commercial Drag Track Reverse "Congratulations! You are now ranked 2nd in Drag race mode." ------------------------ Circuit Dustoff (98/111) ------------------------ Circuit, Port Royal (Laps: 6) The Low-down: All that stands between you and the next ranking are three punks, six laps and a whole lot of horsepower. 2250/3000/3750 Race Victory Reward: "Congratulations! You are now ranked 2nd in Circuit race mode." ---------------------------- Mistakes Are Costly (99/111) ---------------------------- Sprint, To Bedard Bridge The Low-down: You don't get a second lap to make up for any mistakes on the first. And mistakes will cost you the next spot in the rankings. 2250/3000/3750 Race Victory Reward: "Congratulations! You are now ranked 2nd in Sprint race mode." ----------------------- Extra Innings (100/111) ----------------------- Sprint, To 9th and Frey The Low-down: Be the first man to the Stadium in this race. But watch out because the ball game just got out of extra innings and traffic's gonna be killer. 1125/1500/1875 (refer to Challenge 86 if you're having problems completing this Challenge) Race Victory Reward: unlock Visual Upgrade Level 3 Rear Bumpers ------------------------------- Eddie's Posse, Part 2 (101/111) ------------------------------- Tournament (Sprint), To Bedard Bridge (Rounds: 3) The Low-down: The posse is sick of seeing your ride get all the cred. They're gonna take you out in a tournament. 6000/8000/10000 Race Victory Reward: "Race Victory! Hot4s puts you on the cover of their magazine." (Winning all tournaments, www.hot4s.com) The next two challenges can be played in any order: ------------------------------ Toughest 'n Roughest (102/111) ------------------------------ Difficulty: ***** Lap Knock Out, Market Street (Laps: 3) The Low-down: Take on three of the most aggresive drivers in a Lap Knockout in Chinatown. 750/1000/1250 Race Victory Reward: (none) This race requires quick reflexes if you are going to avoid crashes with the train or crossing traffic, so use nitrous boost here when necessary. The first shortcut you can take is through the temple, to the left (before the park). The park route is narrow so exercise some caution navigating it. Apply a little brake or tap the e-brake button when you're too close to the railings. You can use the railings to your advantage too. Coming out of the park route you may need to tap the brake, e-brake or shift down a level (if you're coming out of the park too fast) to make a left turn. The road next to the apartment buildings has a medium right curve that you won't make if you're going too fast, so a good idea is to shift down from 4th to 3rd and shift back up quickly. Either that or apply a little brake and tap the e-brake button. Watch out for crossing traffic again when coming out of this right curve. After the small jump, head for the City Plaza shortcut (that's what the sign with red neon letter says). You can tap the e-brake once if you are close to the edge. Driving through the market is easier. Push your opponents to the side if you encounter any. Jump the bridge and next up is a sharp right turn; use the sharp left turn strategy. Keep an eye out for traffic after this turn, you'll barely have enough time to notice them! Of course, you can always play this race on Easy difficulty, or use the downgrade trick. If those doesn't work, try upgrading everything to max. ------------------------------- Enduro Street Circuit (103/111) ------------------------------- Difficulty: ***** Circuit, Terminal Reverse (Laps: 7) The Low-down: Sometimes you get over it fast. Sometimes you gotta go all night. Show 'em you got what it takes on a 7 lap circuit. 750/1000/1250 Race Victory Reward: (none) The downgrade trick should help here. It should be pretty easy to complete this race if you have a stock skyline. Avoid taking the park shortcut unless you are sure your ride won't turtle. It's easy to crash at least once out of the seven laps you have to do here. Also don't take the two L-curves without downshifting and tapping the e-brake once or twice (third gear using a fully-upgraded skyline is OK). You can shift one level up immediately while exiting the curve. Also save the nitrous boost and only use it if you want to go in between or speed past cars crossing from left to right (or vice versa). Use the walls in the tunnel with pillars to your advantage; it can be pretty crowded with traffic there. Keep to the left lane, and when the tunnel starts to bend you can change to the right lane. Use the right lane in the construction site (after the airport route) since you're likely to crash into opposing traffic if you keep left. Also, remember to use the reset button when you crash and overturn since waiting for the whole scene to be played out can take up valuable seconds. --------------------- Drift Devil (104/111) --------------------- Drift, Drift Track 8 (Laps: 4) The Low-down: You're a major player in the drift scene now. If you're going to challenge for the top spot, you'll have to win this event. 2250/3000/3750 Race Victory Reward: unlock Drift Track 8 "Congratulations! You are now ranked 2nd in Drift race mode." Note: If unlocking magazine cover 22 is a priority for you, this (or Challenge 108) is a good track to attempt beating the best score, since you can only do it in Underground Mode. If you plan to wait till Challenge 108, your ride may be better equipped for it (more credits to upgrade). Refer to the Magazine Covers section for more info on unlocking that elusive cover. Requirements: To unlock magazine cover 22 during this challenge, you're required to beat the best score of 169177 in one lap (any of the four). ---------------------------- Rotary Engine Drag (105/111) ---------------------------- Drag, Main Street Reverse The Low-down: Think you're the fastest down the straight? Here are three seriously tricked out RX-7's trying to prove that you're not! 750/1000/1250 Race Victory Reward: (none) The next four challenges can be played in any order: ------------------ #1 Racer (106/111) ------------------ Difficulty: * Circuit, Port Royal Reverse (Laps: 3) From: Kurt The Low-down: This is for all the marbles. Head to Head against Kurt for the number 1 spot in the circuit rankings. 3750/5000/6250 Kurt (RX-7) First easy circuit race in a while. It's just you and Kurt. No other (cheating) AIs to worry about. Race Victory Reward: "Congratulations! You are now ranked 1st in Circuit race mode." ------------------- Drag King (107/111) ------------------- Drag, Highway 1 Reverse From: Todd The Low-down: Do you have what it takes to beat Todd in this all out drag for the top spot? Destroy or be destroyed! 3750/5000/6250 Race Victory Reward: unlock Highway 1 Drag Track Reverse "Congratulations! You are now ranked 1st in Drag race mode." --------------------- Drift Champ (108/111) --------------------- Drift, Drift Track 8 (Laps: 4) From: Dirt The Low-down: Only Dirt stands between you and the number 1 ranked spot in drift. Take him down with style. 3750/5000/6250 Race Victory Reward: "Congratulations! You are now ranked 1st in Drift race mode." Note: If unlocking magazine cover 22 is a priority for you, then this is your final opportunity to attempt beating the best score, since you can only do it in Underground Mode. The only way to unlock that cover after this challenge is by creating a new profile (means that you'll have to start earning the covers all over again). Refer to the Magazine Covers section for more info on unlocking that elusive cover. Requirements: To unlock magazine cover 22 during this challenge, you're required to beat the best score of 169177 in one lap (any of the four). -------------------------- Sprint Supremacy (109/111) -------------------------- Sprint, To 7th and Sparling From: Chad The Low-down: Chad might be number one now, but you can make him number 2 in less time than it takes to boil an egg. 3750/5000/6250 Race Victory Reward: unlock 7th and Sparling Sprint Track - Reverse "Congratulations! You are now ranked 1st in Sprint race mode." ------------------------ Good Samaritan (110/111) ------------------------ Difficulty: * Circuit, Port Royal Reverse (Laps: 5) The Low-down: TJ messed up Samantha's ride. Beat him to get it back and make amends. 7500/10000/12500 TJ (Civic) (cutscene) Race Victory Reward: "Great driving! Samantha has offered you a choice of one of the following two Wide Body Kits." Samantha's Unique Reward: Vapor, Mantis (cutscene) ------------------------ Wrath of Eddie (111/111) ------------------------ Sprint, To 1st Ave. Truck Stop The Low-down: Aight, let's do this! It's on! Go head to head against Eddie in a cross town battle for racing supremacy. Win to prove you're the hottest driver on the street! 7500/10000/12500 Race Victory Reward: (none) Eddie (Skyline) (cutscene) Upgrade before taking on Eddie. Race Victory Reward: "Race Victory! Stuff puts you on the cover of their magazine." (cutscene) Note: If you're not done customizing the car you're using for Underground Mode, stop here! Once you've completed the next challenge, you can no longer carry out any customizations. ------------------------------ Legend of the Street (112/111) ------------------------------ Circuit, Market Street (Laps: 4) The Low-down: Whoever's driving that mean 350Z wants to take you down bad. Don't let it happen. 7500/10000/12500 Melissa (350Z) That's it! You've won! Now you can proceed to Quick Race (Drift) to unlock the rest of the Style Rewards (if you've not done it before starting or during Underground Mode). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. Style Rewards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, most likely you're here for this section. Tim Zamperini drifted his way through all the Style Rewards (several times!) to get us this list, and I have reasons to believe that it's the first complete style rewards list, anywhere (and accurate, to boot!) If you decide to copy anything else from this FAQ, I'm alright with it, but if you want the list below, try and point your readers to this FAQ, because I think they should at least know the story behind how this list came about. If you can't do that, then please credit it to the dude who went through all the trouble to prepare it for you. He completed the style rewards, had them listed, and found out his brother was winning it in a different order than he was. So he restarted the game and earned all the rewards again, making sure to get one reward per race (thus ensuring that the rewards are in the correct order). He deserves mad props for his work, but told me he wants no credit! I had to beg him to let me give him due recognition in the FAQ else there's no way I can use it. You don't use someone else's stuff without asking. In my opinion, this is the definite list all thanks to one man. Without his efforts we'd still be dreaming about unlocking the reward that comes after Eddie's Skyline. And don't ask how good his drifting is. He can do this list again in his sleep. -------------------------------- Style Rewards (by Tim Zamperini) -------------------------------- 1 Tear Level 1 Vinyls 2 RadioShack XMOD Vinyl 3 AEM Vinyl 4 VORTEX Car (Acura Integra Type R) 5 Alpine Vinyl 6 Tear Hood Level 1 Vinyls 7 5Zigen Vinyl 8 Stripes Level 1 Vinyls 9 Audiobahn Vinyl 10 Stripes Hood Level 1 Vinyls 11 ACT Vinyl 12 Nismo Sentra (Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V) 13 a Unique Vinyl (Custom 1) 14 Splash Level 1 Vinyls 15 HP Racing Vinyl 16 Modern Level 1 Vinyls 17 Brembo Vinyl 18 ENKEI Vinyl 19 GReddy Vinyl 20 Hieroglyphics Vinyl 21 Flames Level 1 Vinyls 22 Arospeed Vinyl 23 Flames Hood Level 3 Vinyls 24 a Unique Vinyl (Custom 2) 25 BBS Vinyl 26 Lightning Level 1 Vinyls 27 Apex Vinyl 28 Venom Vinyl 29 Flags Level 1 Vinyls 30 WOLFRACE Wheels Vinyl 31 Petey Pablo Car (Mitsubishi Eclipse) 32 Tribal Level 1 Vinyls 33 Yokohama Vinyl 34 Tribal Hood Level 3 Vinyls 35 Jackson Racing Vinyl 36 Kenwood Vinyl 37 Wild Level 1 Vinyls 38 a Unique Vinyl (Custom 3) 39 Tear Level 2 Vinyls 40 Mystikal Car (Toyota Celica) 41 KVR Performance Vinyl 42 KYB America Vinyl 43 ABS Dynamics Vinyl 44 Stripes Level 2 Vinyls 45 Autozone Vinyl 46 Clutchmasters Vinyl 47 Henshin Auto Vinyl 48 NEUSPEED Vinyl 49 O.Z. By the time you get 3 million points, you should have unlocked everything including Eddie's Skyline. Everyone's entitled to a second opinion, so here it is, Chisme's Style Rewards List. It comes complete with style points requirement for each reward. Although do note that the order of some rewards are slightly different compared to Tim Zamperini's list, by and large the difference between the two lists should be minimal. ------------------------- Style Rewards (by Chisme) ------------------------- Legend : No. : Style Reward No. Reward Name : Name of Style Reward awarded Points : Points to accumulate for style reward Next : Points to accumulate for next reward in list _____ ______________________________________________ _________ ____________ | | | | | | No. | Reward Name | Points | Next | |_____|______________________________________________|_________|____________| | | | | | | 1 | Tear Level 1 Vinyls | 5000 | + 16500 | | 2 | RadioShack XMOD Vinyl | 21500 | + 16500 | | 3 | AEM Vinyl | 38000 | + 8000 | | 4 | VORTEX Car (Acura Integra Type R) | 46000 | + 8500 | | 5 | Alpine Vinyl | 54500 | + 16500 | | 6 | Tear Hood Level 1 Vinyls | 71000 | + 16500 | | 7 | 5Zigen Vinyl | 87500 | + 16500 | | 8 | Stripes Level 1 Vinyls | 104000 | + 16500 | | 9 | Audiobahn Vinyl | 120500 | + 16500 | | 10 | Stripes Hood Level 1 Vinyls | 137000 | + 16500 | | 11 | ACT Vinyl | 153500 | + 16500 | | 12 | Nismo Sentra (Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V) | 170000 | + 16500 | | 13 | a Unique Vinyl (Custom 1) | 186500 | + 16500 | | 14 | Splash Level 1 Vinyls | 203000 | + 16500 | | 15 | HP Racing Vinyl | 219500 | + 16500 | | 16 | Modern Level 1 Vinyls | 236000 | + 16500 | | 17 | Brembo Vinyl | 252500 | + 16500 | | 18 | ENKEI Vinyl | 269000 | + 16500 | | 19 | GReddy Vinyl | 285500 | + 33000 | | 20 | Hieroglyphics Vinyl | 318500 | + 16500 | | 21 | Flames Level 1 Vinyls | 335500 | + 33000 | | 22 | Arospeed Vinyl | 368000 | + 16500 | | 23 | Flames Hood Level 3 Vinyls | 384500 | + 16500 | | 24 | a Unique Vinyl (Custom 2) | 401000 | + 16500 | | 25 | BBS Vinyl | 417500 | + 16500 | | 26 | Lightning Level 1 Vinyls | 434000 | + 16500 | | 27 | Apex Vinyl | 450500 | + 33000 | | 28 | Venom Vinyl | 483500 | + 16500 | | 29 | Flags Level 1 Vinyls | 500000 | + 16500 | | 30 | WOLFRACE Wheels Vinyl | 516500 | + 16500 | | 31 | Petey Pablo Car (Mitsubishi Eclipse) | 533000 | + 16500 | | 32 | Tribal Level 1 Vinyls | 549500 | + 16500 | | 33 | Yokohama Vinyl | 566000 | + 16500 | | 34 | Tribal Hood Level 3 Vinyls | 582500 | + 16500 | | 35 | Jackson Racing Vinyl | 599000 | + 16500 | | 36 | Kenwood Vinyl | 615500 | + 33000 | | 37 | Wild Level 1 Vinyls | 648500 | + 16500 | | 38 | a Unique Vinyl (Custom 3) | 665000 | + 16500 | | 39 | Tear Level 2 Vinyls | 681500 | + 16500 | | 40 | Mystikal Car (Toyota Celica) | 698000 | + 16500 | | 41 | KVR Performance Vinyl | 714500 | + 16500 | | 42 | KYB America Vinyl | 731000 | + 33000 | | 43 | ABS Dynamics Vinyl | 764000 | + 16500 | | 44 | Stripes Level 2 Vinyls | 780500 | + 17000 | | 45 | Autozone Vinyl | 797500 | + 16000 | | 46 | Clutchmasters Vinyl | 813500 | + 33000 | | 47 | Henshin Auto Vinyl | 846500 | + 16500 | | 48 | NEUSPEED Vinyl | 863000 | + 16500 | | 49 | O.Z. Unlocking Style Rewards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This section deals with unlocking style rewards in the quickest time possible. Ten easy steps: 1. Create a new profile, complete the initiation challenge. 2. Select challenge 3 - drift, complete it and unlock drift track 1 3. Exit UG mode, select "customize ride". 4. Choose a car and upgrade it with all level 1 visual upgrades until you get a multiplier level of x2. 5. Select that car for Quick Race - drift, choose drift track 1. 6. Set number of laps to 10, then get as many clean laps as possible (getting clean laps is important). 7. repeat step 5 and 6 until the Vortex car is unlocked (4th style reward). 8. Change to the Vortex car and continue playing Quick Races - drift. 9. Get as many clean laps as you can to ensure maximum style points earned for each race. 10. Repeat until all 114 style rewards are unlocked. Note: The Vortex car has a multiplier of 5 which is useful to unlock style rewards quickly. The key to earning style points is, of course, the reputation (style points) multiplier. Here's how to earn style points and unlock style rewards in the shortest time. After creating a new profile, complete the first initiation race in Underground Mode. Make a mental note of the car you're racing in, paying extra attention to the vinyl. This is your ticket to unlocking style rewards in record time. After finishing first in this race, you'll be shown the car selection screen. Choose any, then return to Underground Menu. Go to the race map and take on the 3rd challenge, "It's All About Style And Finesse" (3/111), which is a drift race. You can skip the first two since it's not necessary to play challenge 1 - 5 of 111 in a sequential order. Anyway, challenge 3 is the one you're after, so finish first and unlock Drift Track 1. Alright. Now exit Underground Mode to the Main Menu, then choose "Customize Ride". Choose a car and install as many visual upgrades as you can. That would be the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, spoiler, hood, rims and a neon to complete the package. This should raise your reputation multiplier to x2. You're given a 1 star start for any brand new car chosen. Front Bumper + 3 stars, Rear Bumper + 3, Side Skirts + 3, Spoiler +3, Hood + 3, Rims + 3, and Neon +1. The multiplier increases by one level for every 10 stars. So, 1 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 20 stars = Reputation multiplier level 2. So by installing level 1 visual upgrades for those parts you will end up with a multiplier level of x2. Now the fun part (maybe). Save the car, and enter Quick Race. Select drift, then pick the car you've just customized. Choose drift track 1 (or 2, although 1 is shorter) and set the number of laps to 10. Opponent Skill is not relevant to gaining style points, so having that option as easy or hard makes no difference. Keep doing this race and unlock some style rewards. Keep an eye out for the Vortex Car style reward, which is the fourth reward unlocked through style points collection. Once you have this bonus car (a red and white Integra), exit back to the Main Menu and select Quick Race again. This time instead of using the car with a level 2 multiplier, choose the Vortex car instead. If you have no problems finding the car you can skip one paragraph. ----------------------------------------------------------------- (only read this paragraph if you can't find the Vortex car) It should be the second last car in the list, from left to right. Note that this is the same car loaned to you in the initiation challenge. The upper right text will only show "Acura Integra Type R" but if you wait for the car to drive into view you will notice that the Integra has a unique vinyl on it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- If you look to the bottom right of your screen (with the Vortex car in view), you would notice that it has a level 5 multiplier. Enter this car into the Drift races, under Quick Race Mode. Choose drift track 1 (or 2) and set the number of laps to 10. Drift track 1 is recommended since it's shorter and this will play a role in speeding up the rewards unlocking process. (explained later) In the drift race, try not to hit the wall for the entire 10 laps (1 or 2 laps are OK). Get as many clean laps as possible. Individual drift score is not really important here. Once you have the race completed, you'll get 800 points for each clean lap to be added to your score. This score will be multiplied by 5 if you're using the Vortex car. So, the clean lap bonus will come around to about 40,000 points if you manage to get all 10. (800 x 10 laps multiplied by 5 = 40,000 style points) This would account for nearly half of your style points total. Of course, a clean race bonus of 500 points will be added (500 multiplied by 5 = 2,500 style points) although that is a small amount. Clean lap bonuses make up for nearly half of your style points total at the end of each race. (Assuming that you get anywhere around 100,000 points) You don't really need to get big drift scores in the race. Using this method you can unlock at least 3 - 6 style rewards in one go, and you should have unlocked all rewards when you've acquired about 3 million style points. Good luck! Additional notes: This section is for getting better drift scores in drift track 1. As you may have noticed, there are horizontal white lines throughout the track, to the left and right of the road (near the walls). This is the bonus zone. Doing drifts with either your front or back wheels in this area will speed up your bonus point counter (it will turn orange instead of the usual yellow). It's a good idea to execute drifts in this area for as long as possible, which is easy to say but difficult to carry out, especially in later drift tracks. In drift track 1, drifting close to the left wall with your front wheels in the striped zone is the easiest way to gain drift points. The ascii art below might help in visualizing the idea. ___________________ | | | | | | | | | | | The stripes represents the bonus zone. |- 2 -| This is literally on both sides of |- 3 |_|_|_|_| -| the road, although you might want to |- -| |-1 -| concentrate on the inner circle. |- -| |- -| |- -| |- -| As you approach a bend (1), do the e-brake |- -| |- -| and keep your front wheel (left one if you |- -| |- -| can't do both) in the bonus zone lining up |- 4-|_______|- -| the left wall. Your front wheel(s) should |- | | | | | -| still be in the bonus zone when you're in |- -| position (2). This will net you the bonus |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| zone points. As you enter the next bend (3), reposition your car with any method (brake, e-brake, steer a little to the right) so that it's aligned with the road. This will make a perfect exit from the bend and gain you some substantial drift points from the bonus area as well. You're then ready to repeat step 1 in position (4). This may not gain you the most drift points but it should be easy to execute. Moreover completing 10 laps per race is considerably much faster this way, although don't let me cramp your style. I'm sure everyone has their own drift methods! Assuming you have enough practice, you can even go around Drift Track 1 without ever lifting your finger off the acceleration button and never using your brakes/e-brake once. You'll get more points than the method described above since you're netting points by going around the track at a higher speed, but it'll be harder to keep your wheels in the bonus zone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XI. Magazine Covers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have received several mails regarding the elusive cover 22, and have come upon the following conclusion (correct me if I'm wrong). To unlock cover 22, do the following: As soon as you complete a drift race in UG mode (Hard difficulty), the race results menu will be shown. Skip past these few screens until the option of Restart(ing the race), Statistics, and Collect Reward/Continue appears. Select Statistics and your Race Stats will be shown (plus All Lap Scores, Best Drift Score and Longest Drift). Your All Lap Scores will determine whether you successfully unlock magazine cover 22. To earn that cover, you need to beat the best score for that particular drift track in one single lap. If you manage to do that, the special Import Tuner cover is yours. Please refer to the Best Times/Scores section for a list of each track's records. To summarize, in order to unlock magazine cover 22 you need to beat the best score for that particular track in one lap. For example, in Challenge 108 (Drift Champ) you're required to race on Drift Track 8, which has the best score of 169177 for one lap. To acquire all magazine covers, you have to complete the following: 1 - ranked 10 in circuit (Challenge 19) 2 - ranked 9 in sprint (Challenge 27) 3 - ranked 10 in drift (Challenge 25) 4 - ranked 7 in drag (Challenge 55) 5 - ranked 8 in drift (Challenge 40) 6 - ranked 8 in circuit (Challenge 37) 7 - ranked 6 in circuit (Challenge 59) 8 - ranked 6 in sprint (Challenge 67) 9 - ranked 4 in drift (Challenge 85) 10 - win all tournaments (Challenge 101) 11 - win overall title (Challenge 111) 12 - unlock All Level 1 Performance Upgrades 13 - unlock All Level 2 Performance Upgrades 14 - unlock All Level 3 Performance Upgrades 15 - install 2-3 Visual Upgrades 16 - install All Level 1 Visual Upgrades 17 - install All Level 2 Visual Upgrades 18 - install All Level 3 Visual Upgrades 19 - install All 4 Unique Visual Upgrades and 9 other Level 3 Visual Upgrades 20 - beat the preset best time for any Drag race in Underground Mode (Hard difficulty) 21 - beat the preset best time for any Circuit race in Underground Mode (Hard difficulty) 22 - beat the preset best score for any Drift race in Underground Mode (Hard difficulty) 23 - beat the preset best time for any Sprint race in Underground Mode (Hard difficulty) 24 - acquire 500 online reputation points (PC and PS2 versions only) 25 - acquire 1000 online reputation points (PC and PS2 versions only) 26 - acquire 2500 online reputation points (PC and PS2 versions only) 27 - acquire 5000 online reputation points (PC and PS2 versions only) 28 - Beat Racer X ** (Turbo and High-Tech Performance, PS2 version only) ** To view magazine cover 28 on the PS2, first highlight magazine cover 2 on the top right, then scroll all the way down (hold down on the D-Pad) until the last cover is selected. The description will say 'Beat Racer-X'. To my knowledge no one has unlocked this cover yet. If you have, send me a screenshot and the method used to unlock, and I'll make sure you're credited for being the first beat Racer-X! Cheat Codes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Any emails are welcomed but I don't use cheats in Underground so I may not be able to reply your mails about cheats. Thanks. All cheat codes listed works. After exiting the Statistic screen, no input box will appear. You need to type in the cheat code alphabet by alphabet, and once you have done that no notification of the correct code will be visible or heard. To find out whether the cheat you wanted is entered correctly, you need to start a quick race and do a quick check on the available tracks or bonus cars. If there are more tracks/cars than before you've tried out the codes, it means that you've got it right. Else try again, you might have left out the step involving selecting/exiting the Statistic screen, or mistype the code itself. (PC) Start game, Select Statistics from the Main Menu screen, then return to the Main Menu (press Backspace), and enter the following cheat(s): unlock all level 1 performance upgrades: allmylvloneparts unlock all level 2 performance upgrades: allmylvl2parts unlock all drag tracks: gimmesomedrag unlock all drift tracks: driftdriftbaby unlock all sprint tracks: gimmesomesprints unlock all circuit tracks: gimmesomecircuits Note: Unlocking all circuit tracks will make the same tracks available for lap knockout and free run mode. There will be no prompts or alert sounds to confirm that you have entered the correct cheat. Just press the corresponding alphabet/numeric keys on the keyboard, and head towards Quick Race to see whether the bonus car/track is available to you. 350Z - 350350z Eclipse - 899eclipse Focus - 119focus Impreza - 371impreza Lancer - 222lancer Lost Prophets - needmylostprophets Miata - 221miata MyGolf - 334mygolf Mystikal - havyamystikal Neon - 893neon Petey Pablo - gimmeppablo Peugeot - 77peugeot Rob Zombie - gotcharobzombie RX7 - 777rx7 Sentra - 922sentra Skyline - 111skyline Tiburon - 667tiburon Note: Cars unlocked using the above cheats will not work in Underground Mode. Frequently Asked Questions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- a. General ---------- Q. Any demos for NFS:U? A. Get it from the official site (www.needforspeed.com). It's about 220MB. You can only use the Nissan 350Z for a Circuit Race (1 Lap) and a Drag Race. - Q. I'm replaying through UG mode to create a ride purely for drag races. Which of TJ's upgrades should I choose? A. After completing a challenge from TJ that rewards you with a unique performance upgrade, you will be shown the performance upgrade selection screen. For each part selected a small increment would be added to one of the gauges at the bottom (Acceleration, Top Speed or Handling). Pick a part that increases acceleration (or top speed) since good handling is not required in drag races. Drag race mode in NFS:U has been simplified to just changing lanes so no precise controls on the wheel is necessary. Additional info by Da ItAlIaN sTaLlIoN: Choose drivetrain and turbo performance upgrades. From then on, pick either nitrous or weight reduction for handling. - Q. Is it possible to adjust either the performance or style point multiplier of bonus cars (e.g. Eddie's Skyline)? A. No. No visual upgrades even. - Q. Why do I get a blown engine during a drag race no matter which car I choose? A. You have to do manual shift change during drag races even if you have it set to auto in the options menu. (PC) Use the Ins key to shift up, Del key to shift down. Alternatively you can use A and Z. (PS2) Use R2 to shift up, and L2 to shift down. - Q. I've seen online players holding 17 second records for drag tracks. How do I get 18 seconds in a drag race? A. Not possible, unless you cheat. It's either that or you have an excellent ride and a perfect run. Also you need might some help from an opponent to ram you on the rear bumper for a slight speed boost. That's to get a 'less than 20 second' record. It's a well-known fact that online cheating is rampant, therefore even if a 17 second record exists (without cheating), there's no way to confirm the validity. - Q. I only have gloss paint colors to choose from. How do I access pearlescent and metallic paint colors? A. In base paint menu, click on the left or right symbol just next to the gloss paint text. - Q. Where do I get the Unique Vinyl (with flames) shown during one of the loading screens? A. (In reference to the loading screen with following text, "Apply up to four layers of vinyl onto your car") Samantha's Custom Vinyl No. 5 can be acquired by completing Challenge 68, among with 9 other unique vinyls. The "flames" are part of the vinyl, while the base paint for the car should be part of the metallic set (sixth color from the left, 2nd row out of three) - Q. In the Drag Tutorial, the car's engine sounds different, something like out of the movie. Is that possible to replicate in the game? A. (submissions welcomed) - Q. How do I capture screenshots of the game? A. Press the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard, then ALT-TAB or quit to desktop and open Paint. Click on edit and select paste. Then choose yes when asked to enlarge the bitmap. - Q. How many challenges are there in Underground Mode? A. 112, although the indicator will always show 111 in total. This does not include the initiation race before the first challenge (1/111), therefore it's arguable that there's actually 113 races in Underground Mode. - Q. I played through 113 races in Underground Mode. Is your FAQ incorrect? A. The last race is stated as 112/111 on the top right. For ease of use, I will use that as a reference. The additional race you're refering to would be the initiation race, before challenge 1/111. After completing this race would you be able to choose one of the five cars to use in Underground Mode and subsequently begin the first challenge proper (1/111). - Q. Are there any cops in Need for Speed Underground? A. Need for Speed Underground does not have any police that will pursue those who violate the speed limits in the game. (source: official site) - Q. Which out of the five cars at the beginning of a new profile is best for drift races? A. Miata. Though it's not a good choice for drag (engine blows too easily). - Q. What are the different Style Points available? A. Plus: Drafting, Hang Time, Powerslide, Clean Section (+50), Clean Lap (+200), Clean Race (+500), Near Miss (+100), Shortcut (+100), Head Start (+100), Lead Lap (+100), Victory (+500), NOS Purge (+150), 360 (+200). Minus: Hit Traffic. You can only get the style points for a successful 360 three times in a race (200 x 3). All subsequent 360s will be ignored. Victory and Clean Race style points are awarded once, at the end of a race. All other points are multiplied by the number of successful attempts. Shortcut style points are awarded once in every race, for each shortcut. Taking the same shortcut multiple times will only bag you that particular style points bonus once, but taking different shortcuts in a race will reward you with a style point bonus per shortcut. - Q. What about the NOS Purge bonus? A. The correct way to do a NOS purge! Gain 150 style points during the count down by doing a full rev and holding it, then tap the NOS button. You will know you've done a NOS purge when smokes come out from the sides of your car. (info by Jax of Lincoln) To get a NOS Purge bonus, tap the NOS button at the start of a race, just before the counter reaches 0. It's worth 150 points and has no multiplier so it's only worth doing once! (info by Andy Turner) Right before the race starts, press the NOS button. A little exhaust from the port will blow through the vents/edge of your hood. It looks like when a bull snorts and it's purely for show, but you get 150 points for doing it. It just takes a light tap, no need to waste any of your NOS for later. That plus head start is a great way to start every race with a 250 style points bonus. (info by Josh) - Q. How can I drift better? A. If you're using a Skyline, try the RX-7. Else turn off stability control from the Car Menu (under Main Menu, Options) - Q. Do you get anything extra for beating Underground Mode on Hard difficulty? A. No. There's no difference to the type or number of rewards unlocked in Easy, Normal or Hard Difficulty. Except for the amount of credit you earn for completing challenges, of course. - Q. Can I carry over the rewards earned/unlocked to another profile? A. No. By starting a new profile, you begin afresh and would have to play thru Underground Mode or Quick Races to earn the rewards again. This applies to all unlockable tracks, vinyls, upgrades, bonus cars and such. - Q. Why is challenge 86/95 so difficult? A. Please refer to the Underground Mode walkthrough for tips on beating the challenge. One angle of looking at it is that it has something to do with top speed. The AI uses the top speed to their advantage, so if you're not comfortable with those corners you'll definitely lose out in the race. Reducing the top speed will set a handicap that all opponents will follow suit, thus making it difficult to put the catch-up logic to good use. - Q. Challenge 30 (Dead Calm) requires me to upgrade to reputation level 2. I've done everything including visual upgrades, but it won't let me race. Did I leave out something? A. It should be possible to race Challenge 30 if you've upgraded everything. Check to see if you missed any visual upgrades. Spoilers, etc. (Note that Challenge 14 also requires you to have at least a Reputation Level of x1 to participate) - Q. I got beaten by a supposedly 'weaker' car. Why does all car models perform the same? A. Not all cars are alike. Please refer to the 'Cars' section for all the minor differences. The difference is miniscule therefore it's easy to mistake that all rides perform the same. (although this does make some of the cars slightly inaccurate compared to their actual counterparts) - Q. I've heard rumors of personalized number plates. Is this true? A. The rumors are false. You're stuck with "UNDRGND" like the rest of us, if that helps. - Q. What's the best car in the game? A. You have two choices here. The Skyline has speed and control. On the other hand, the RX-7's handling is slightly better and pretty useful to use in Drift races. - Q. When do I unlock more headlights to customize my ride? A. In challenge 60 ("Bright Lights Big Spoiler"). Understandably, this will cause some confusion as the only sets of headlights available to you are stock and Level 3s. There are no Level 1 and 2 headlights to unlock. - Q. During one of the loading screens, it says "Learn how to drift by watching the tutorial videos." How can I access the videos? A. (PC) Select Quick Race from the Main Menu, highlight Drag or Drift and press "T". (PS2) Press L2 instead when Drag or Drift is highlighted. -------------------------------- b. Vinyl/Paints/Decals/Body Kits -------------------------------- Q. (PC) How do you change the color of a vinyl? A. Go to the Change Vinyl screen, where 4 vinyl layers are shown. Make sure the vinyl you want to change is highlighted. There are 2 buttons below it that says 'layer order' and 'vinyl color'. Use your mouse to click on 'vinyl color' then choose your color using the keyboard. - Q. (PS2) How do you change the color of a vinyl? A. Go to the Change Vinyl screen, where 4 vinyl layers are shown. Make sure the vinyl you want to change is highlighted. Press square on the vinyl to enter the color selection screen. - Q. I have tried clicking on vinyl color at the Change Vinyl screen but nothing happens, and when I click on the arrows the layer order changes. What gives? A. Firstly, you have to select a vinyl (Lighting 3, Tribal 3, etc.) Then click on 'vinyl color' with your mouse to enter the color selection screen. For vinyls that carry a "2" or "3" label, you have to choose 2 or 3 colors for them. Note: Colors for Unique and Manufacturer Vinyls cannot be changed. You can only "blend" their colors with your car by using Pearlescent Paint. - Q. How do you get Level 2/3 Paints? A. Level 2 Paint can be unlocked in Underground Mode, challenge 23 and Level 3 Paint can be unlocked in challenge 65. - Q. How do you paint engine parts? A. You need to upgrade your engine/exhaust to at least street performance (Performance Upgrade Level 1 Engine/Exhaust Packages) since you can't paint stock parts. The paint change is not visible for level 1 packages although you should be able to watch the engine accent paint change as you scroll through the paint palette for Level 2 and 3 packages. So if it doesn't look like there's any difference after choosing an engine accent color chances are you have a Level 1 Package. Upgrade to Level 2 or 3, then try and change the color again. (info by Michael Hauder) - Q. Is it possible create your own vinyl for use in the game? A. Yes, although you require the use of a third-party program. No help will be provided in this area, you have to look for it yourself. - Q. Any other decal colors to select besides white? White decals on white cars don't work! A. (PC) In the decal selection screen, press 'Z' to change between a white and black decal. You should do this before choosing the decal itself. - Q. What is a wide body kit? A. A wide body kit extends the body of the car laterally to cover the tires. They look like molded mud flaps that connects the bumper to the skirt. You unlock them in challenge 110. And no, you can't have them both. Not without hacking your save, anyway. Note that installing certain wide body kits can totally change the outlook of your ride. For example sticking the Vapor wide body kit onto a stock Lancer and you will end up with what looks like a Lancer Evo VIII (well, that's what people keep telling me). You can see a Lancer with a Vapor wide body kit early in the game, in Challenge 29 (Scouting Report). Todd will be driving the Lancer in question and you'll notice that it looks different compared to the Lancer you unlock by completing Challenge 4 (The Perfect Shift). Todd's ride has a large Mitsubishi insignia while the stock Lancer has a smaller one. This is because you only unlock that particular wide body kit in Challenge 110! Moreover if you select the wrong wide body kit (picking Mantis instead of Vapor), then you've missed your chance and need to start another profile all over again. - Q. Upgrading to a wide body kit means new wheels (tires that are wider), thus improving acceleration and handling. Am I right? A. No. Wide body kits are listed as visual upgrades. If visual upgrades affect a car's performance, all cars would thus have the same parts to get the best performance possible, therefore defeating the purpose of having different visual upgrades. - Q. How can I get both wide body kits? Do I have to play through Underground Mode again? A. Simple. You can't. There's absolutely no way you can have both and swap kits in-between races. If you've selected one you're stuck with that unless you begin a new Underground Mode with another profile. This applies to all Unique Rewards. The only way to get both wide body kits is to hack your save. It's not possible to earn both of them in a single profile through normal means. Also, you can't carry over unlocked rewards from one profile to another. There are certain pre-made saves out there with both wide body kits plus all unique unlockables in one profile if you look hard enough. - Q. How can I get all the unique vinyls that Samantha offers me? A. (Please refer to the above question) - Q. Quick. The Mantis or the Vapor wide body kit? A. Vapor. Looks better on most rides. Plus, if you want a ride similar to what Todd's driving in Challenge 29 (Scouting Report), you definitely need to pick the Vapor wide body kit for your Lancer (or at least unlock it to customize a stock Lancer for quick races). - Q. Can I unlock and apply the Eastsiderz vinyl from Eddie's car onto my custom ride? A. No, not by normal means anyway. The Eastsiderz vinyl is unique for Eddie's Skyline only, just like the Rob Zombie vinyl can only be found on Rob Zombie's bonus car. A third-party program for changing vinyls does exist out there but EA doesn't provide support for such applications and neither do I. ----------------------- c. Performance Upgrades ----------------------- Q. Is there any difference in performance when choosing brand packages for upgrades? A. No. Brand makes no difference. All the brand packages perform equally well. - Q. Best unique performance upgrade combination? A. Engine, E.C.U. and trans. If you're looking for a second opinion, put turbo into the mix for better acceleration. For handling, tires and brakes would be the right choice. -------------------------- d. Rewards/Magazine Covers -------------------------- Q. Does selection of difficulty level for each challenge affects the rewards given on completion? A. To my knowledge, no. - Q. I have collected Eddie's Nissan Skyline Style Reward. Is there any more? A. Nope. That's the last of the 114 Style Rewards you can unlock in NFS:U. - Q. How do I know if I've unlocked all the style rewards? A. Once you have Eddie's Skyline, that should be it. Else check to see if your style gauge increases after gaining some style points. If it you're still getting level up, then there's style rewards yet to be unlocked. All style rewards should be unlocked when you've acquired about 3,000,000 style points. You may have to level up your reputation multiplier to 5x max to unlock all style rewards. - Q. Does different profiles unlock different magazine covers? A. Yes, slightly. You will get the same cover although the model(s) posing for the magazine is/are chosen at random, then superimposed on the cover of the magazine with your ride in the background. Method of unlocking the covers stays the same, though. ------------ e. Trade Ins ------------ Q. I have unlocked new cars earned in Underground Mode, but when I Trade In the stats stay the same. I don't understand the point of having a different car but stuck with the same stats. Does the car model really matter? A. Stats are not the same, they are just not shown there. Here's how to view stats for the car you'd like to change to. Select a a car to "Trade In" and press Enter. A performance screen will show up. This is the current performance stats of your current car. Press Enter again and that'll be the stats of the car you're purchasing. Stats change as upgrades are acquired over the course of the game. - Q. Can I trade in my car repeatedly for rebates? A. Yes. It's possible. ----------- f. Profiles ----------- Q. Can I have more than one car per profile to use in Underground Mode? A. No. You're limited to one custom car per profile. You have to trade in to use another car. There is no garage option. - Q. Is it possible to unlock all unique parts for one driver profile? A. No, sorry. It can't be done through normal means. Not unless you plan to hack your save. --------- g. Cheats --------- Q. Why don't the PC cheats work? A. Cheats found in the cheats section should work if you follow the instructions carefully. Remember to enter and exit the Statistics screen once before you key in the cheat code. There is no notification when the cheat is typed in correctly. You have to do a quick check on whether the tracks/bonus car has been unlocked or not by going into the quick race menu. If not, try again. You might have missed out something or typed incorrectly. - Q. Why don't the PS2 cheats work? A. I have not tested them since I don't own a PS2. - Q. Why doesn't the unlimited nitro code work? A. To my knowledge, there is no unlimited nitro code. ------------ h. Technical ------------ Q. (PC) How do I copy my profile/custom car to play on another PC? Where does Underground store saved game profile information? Where are the save games located? A. (Win XP users) Saved Game information can be found at this location: (C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataNFS Underground). Remember to enable "Show Hidden Files" to be able to locate the Application Data directory. You'll be able to save and re-import this information into your game (if you have a re-format, or any other data loss) as long as you put it into the same directory. (source: official site) (Win 9x and ME users) Look for your save files here: C:WindowsAll UsersApplication DataNFS Underground. - Q. How do you turn off the slow-mo cam? (also known as the crash cam) A. Select OPTIONS, then CAMERA, and move the Jump Cameras slider all the way to the left. (or to the right, if you want more of it) - Q. Can I import my own music (MP3's) into Need for Speed Underground? A. No, the game does not support imported music files. However, you can mute the game music (set it to 0) and use a media player to play your music in the background. - Q. Is there a replay option? A. The replay option is not available in NFS:U, unlike previous NFS in the series. - Q. Is there a rear view mirror option? A. Yes. Although the rear mirror view is only available if you have selected bumper cam mode. Press the 'Esc' key to bring up the Pause Menu, then select 'Camera'. Choose 'Bumper Cam' for your Favourite Drive Camera. Then return to the previous menu and choose 'Display'. The rearview mirror option should appear now. Turn it on. Note: This option will not appear unless you have already selected 'Bumper Cam' for your Favourite Drive Camera. - Q. Is there language support? A. Yes. Although you have to mess around with the registry. (only attempt this if you know what you're doing!) No instructions. I trust that with the sparse info provided below, you should be able to change the language. Else, there's a file on the web that helps you do the same although you may have to look real hard for it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareEA GAMESNeed For Speed Underground Name: Language Options: English US, Dutch, Spanish, Swedish, French, German, Italian Bear in mind that when receiving messages in the Underground Mode, sound bites will not be played, and all cutscenes will still be in English. And no, the tracks are still in English no matter how much you want to hear Lil Jon rap in Spanish. - Q. Will there be any downloadable content (Paint Jobs, Cars, etc.) for Need for Speed Underground? A. Due to the compatibility between the PS2 console and the PC, there will be no downloadable content available for the game. The reason for this being that both platforms must remain exactly the same in order to be compatible. Any change to one must be made to the other. (source: official site) - Q. Is there online support for Cube/Box? A. No. Online support is only available for PS2 and PC users only. - Q. (PC) How do I activate motion blur? It's blurred out in the Display Settings. A. If it's blurred out, most likely your display card does not support that option. The only way you can get motion blur to work is to obtain a new graphics card. Anyway, the blur effect is not a must-see option. I have seen it in GTA and MGS on the PC, it really doesn't improve gameplay (and will cause eye discomfort over time). Reason being blur effects do not translate well on the PC, only on TV. (The same goes for crowd option) No driver updates can help you here. My guess is that these options are not available for "pre-DirectX 9" graphics card owners. - Q. (PC) How do I activate headlights in the game, similar to what we see in the tutorial? A. You can only enable headlights if your graphics card support such option. As the tutorial is a video cutscene it may mislead you to believe that the headlights option is available for your system. This is not true. Please refer to the question regarding motion blur for more details. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XVI.
