Walkthrough ******************************************************************************* NOTE: Before I start this FAQ Walkthrough keep in mind that these strategies are used on the very hard level and thus is a very hard level FAQ Walkthrough, if you are playing on an easier level then this guide will still work for you but just you will be over prepared for your oncoming attacks and missions. ******************************************************************************* A. - Combat Based Games ******************************************************************************* The combat based games have four different options to choose from, these are the four different options you may choose from and the strategies I offer: ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Playing The Military Campaign ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The military campaign is the main focus to the game and is the funnest part about stronghold, it has 21 different missions to it and I will explain a good strategy to beat each mission if you need help on beating it. Here are the 21 missions and how to beat each of them. O=============================================================================O | 1. Gathering The Lost | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods - 20 Meat | | Acquire Goods - 40 Wood | | | | We need you to oversee the setting up of a good-sized base camp. Start by | | finding a suitable clearing then use some of the wood plentiful in this | | area to begin your construction. | | | | | | New Available - Stockpile, Wood Cutter | | Buildings - Hunters Post | | - Hovel | | - Granary | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 80 Gold | | Goods - 25 Wood | | - 18 Meat | | | | Starting - None | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is as simple as it gets in the game, start by putting your keep down | | just about anywhere but for a faster beat put it near the bottom near the | | trees. Next put your granary near by to your keep, then build 3 or so wood | | cutters and 3 or so hunter posts. When your lumberjacks bring back some | | wood make a few more wood cutters and hunter posts and soon enough you will | | achieve victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. Fishing The Fort | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods - 35 Meat | | Complete Castle | | | | To ensure the safety of your men, you are required to renovate the | | abandoned stockade before winter is upon us again. Use your archers to kill | | off any wolves that threaten your peasants. | | | | | | New Available - Wooden Wall, Small Wooden Gatehouse | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 80 Gold | | Goods - 15 Wood | | - 25 Meat | | | | Starting - None | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Start by placing your granary right beside your keep, next place 3 wood | | cutters just to the left in the woodish area. Now place one hunter post | | right beside your granary, when the lumberjacks come back with some wood | | put down 4 or 5 more hunter posts to start getting some real meat coming | | in. Once the meat starts coming in and you reach 35 meat finish your castle | | off by selecting the wooden wall and connecting the two open parts of your | | wood castle wall, if you don't have enough wood right now just wait about | | 30 seconds for more wood to come in to finish it off. With this strategy | | you should have victory before or as soon as the wolves start coming to | | attack, even if it takes a little longer your archers will kill the wolves | | on their own, just move your all of your archers to the right side of the | | wooden gatehouse. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. Eliminating The Wolves | O=============================================================================O| | | | | Objectives : Eradicate Wolves | | | | Construct a Motte and bailey fortification and strengthen it with some | | towers. Then start bow production and raise a force of archers with which | | to eradicate the wolves that run riot there. | | | | | | New Available - Wood Barracks, Armory, Wooden Platform, | | Buildings - Fletchers Workshop | | | | New Available - Archer | | Troops | | | | Starting - 500 Gold | | Goods - 40 Wood | | - 45 Meat | | | | Starting - None | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Put your keep down right in the yellow area on the map, it's the | | yellowish hilly looking part on your screen. Place your granary just above | | your keep on the yellow area, now put down 5 or 6 wood cutters below your | | keep near the trees. Next put down 2 or so hunter posts directly behind the | | granary, once you get some more wood coming in from your lumberjacks put | | down a couple more hunter posts and then put down a armory near your keep | | and with it 2 or so fletcher workshops. Once you have 3 or 4 bows put down | | a barracks somewhere and create 3 or 4 archers, now just have your archers | | attack the wolves on the left part of the map. Your archers should be able | | to kill the wolves before they can reach and attack them, repeat this with | | all the wolves on the left side of the map and shortly after they are all | | dead you will obtain victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. The hidden lookout | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Units | | | | Find a suitable location on high ground near the lands belonging to Duc De | | Puce and start construction of an outpost. The wooden keep will offer | | better protection than a simple hall. Take some cattle to breed as the land | | suits them well. Do not show yourself to the enemy, but should you be | | discovered let none escape to tell. The hills will give your archers an | | advantage when firing from height. | | | | | | New Available - None | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 300 Gold | | Goods - 40 Wood | | - 45 Meat | | | | Starting - None | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Build your keep near the top of the map just on the hilly part, next | | place your granary below it a bit on the other section of yellow hilly | | area. Now build 5 or 6 wood cutters near the trees and with the rest of the | | wood build dairy farms on the open yellow hilled area. When you receive | | more wood cover the entire yellow hilled area with dairy farms and right | | after build 2 or 3 fletcher workshops, then build your armory and barracks. | | When a few bows are made build a small wooden gatehouse on the green ground | | right below your keep, have it face the proper way which is down to the | | right. Now start making your archers and send them to stand on the gate, | | close the gate door just incase the oncoming attackers will go through it | | and attack you... closing it will give you a second or two more. Once you | | have about 3 or 4 archers it's likely that the rats troops will come for | | you, they are only spearmen and will be killed before they can even reach | | your archers. Keep building bows and training archers and putting them up | | one the gate, soon as you have about 12 archers or so your set for the | | mission. After a few more waves of spearmen you will emerge victorious. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. Between A Rock And A Hard Place | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Your scouts report you are trapped without enough supplies to continue or | | enough troops to fight your way back. Your only chance is to make your | | stand here. They have found a strong defensive position on the island in a | | broad river and one of your lieutenants has already started building a | | base. The land around the river is very fertile, use it to grow some wheat. | | | | | | New Available - Wheat Farm | | Buildings - Bakery, Mill | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 400 Gold | | Goods - 86 Wood | | - 70 Bread | | | | Starting - 4 Archers | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This will be your first tough mission if you are playing on very hard, | | once the mission starts place your granary behind the keep. Next build at | | least 12 wood cutters near some trees, your gonna need a lot of wood and | | quick on this mission. Once the wood comes in start making some wheat farms | | maybe 4 or 5 in the fields below your little island where your keep is... | | next build a armory close to the stockpile and 2 or so fletcher workshops | | close to the stockpile for now, also build a barracks somewhere to. When | | some more wood comes in build a mill close to the keep and then build some | | bakeries close to the stockpile and your granary. When even more wood comes | | in continue to build more wheat farms and bakeries, and soon build another | | mill to keep up with the wheat coming in. When you have a steady income of | | food raise the amount of food eaten to extra rations and then increase the | | tax to +4, while this is going on you need to be building archers with the | | bows that are being made.. place all your archers on top of the keep. | | | | When you build your first 2 or 3 archers is likely when the rats troops | | will attack, have your archers go for the other archers attacking your | | archers.. you will need to use your lord here to kill off the spearmen that | | will make their way up into the keep. When you kill off the first wave of | | troops you will need to start mass production bows, when you have enough | | wood make more fletcher workshops for more production of bows because you | | will need them, now just continue to make archers and stuff them all onto | | the keep. After a few more waves of troops you will achieve victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 6. The Rats Proposal - Part One | O=============================================================================O | | | Objective : Negotiate With The Rat | | | | From Lord Woolsack : Pitch a small camp in an open clearing then await Duc | | De Puces arrival. Do not bring arms to bear upon him for any reason. To | | secure our lands these talks must succeed. | | | | New Available - None | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - None | | Goods | | | | Starting - 6 Archers | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is just a played out scene of your archers getting mown down by the | | rats troops, you have no control over your archers so they just die. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 6. The Rats Proposal - Part Two | O=============================================================================O | | | Objective : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | From Sir Longarm : A Trap. Our advanced party was mown down like animals. | | Now I will give you some new orders. Build a large fortification and | | prepare your troops for Duc De Puces arrival. Use the masons I sent with | | you to quarry stone and build a strong permanent castle here. | | | | | | New Available - Wall Stairs, Stone Wall, Crenellated Wall, | | Buildings Barracks, Small Stone Gatehouse | | - Quarry, Ox Tether | | - Dairy Farm | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 300 Gold | | Goods - 90 Wood | | 75 Stone | | - 50 Meat | | - 8 Bows | | | | Starting - None | | Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Place your keep close but not to close to the canyon where your archers | | were assassinated, now like always build 10-12 wood cutters in the trees | | area. Expand your stockpile by at least one extra square, now build a few | | wheat farms or if you want to just stick with the easy cheese build a few | | of them kind of close to your stockpile. When the wood comes in build 2 | | fletcher workshops along with a armory and a barracks. When more wood comes | | in continue to expand your food growth until you can afford to give your | | peasants extra rations, now raise the tax to 4 and start producing more and | | more fletcher shops for more bows. Keep training archers as the bows come | | in and place them all on top of your keep, just keep producing archers now | | and tossing them on the keep and your archers will wipe out the rats | | troops... a few waves later you will succeed. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 7. Breaking The Siege | O=============================================================================O | | | Objective : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Lord Manikin is under siege and it is vital to our cause that his county | | does not fall. Land by boat with a company of spearmen and command his | | garrison to victory. Success here may well spark uprisings from some of the | | other counties. | | | | | | New Available - Poleturners Workshop | | Buildings | | | | New Available - Spearman | | Troops | | | | Starting - 82 Gold | | Goods - 66 Wood | | 24 Stone | | 13 Flour | | - 42 Bread | | - 6 Bows | | | | Starting - 9 Archers | | Troops 21 Spearmen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is gonna be the toughest mission so far if you are playing on very | | hard, first you need to send all of your troops up onto the keep from the | | start. When the enemy gets through the walls let your archers kill as many | | as they can and when they get close to the keep send your spearmen out | | after them to kill them all. While this is going on, preferably just before | | they attack you need to build about 8 or so wood cutters to the far left | | where the trees are because your gonna need a lot of wood fast again. Once | | you fend off the attack put down 3 or 4 bakeries for food before you run | | out, next put up 3 or so fletcher workshops to begin some bow production. | | Delete all of your wood fort to gain extra wood reserves, now build a few | | wheat farms down below to keep your food coming in. When the wood arrives | | from your lumberjacks build some more bakeries, maybe about 8 or 9 in | | total. Give extra rations to your peasants even if you can't spear it right | | now... don't worry your bakers will catch up. | | | | Raise the tax to 4 now and when you get enough money make more fletcher | | workshops and even 1 or 2 poleturner shops. Keep training archers and | | spearmen as the weapons come in and put them on top of the keep. The next | | wave of the rats soldiers will be huge so I hope you worked fast enough and | | have enough troops, when they penetrate the wall again have your archers | | kill as many as possible and then use your spearmen to attack the closer up | | ones, you may have to use the lord... but be sure not to use him to early | | or he will be killed by the many spearmen real fast, only use him if there | | are 6 or so spearmen left. Keep building troops and use this technique over | | and over again until your victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 8. Dealing With The Devil | O=============================================================================O | | | Objective : Acquire Goods : 10 Ale | | | | Spies report that the rat is due to launch a do or die attack on our lands | | and you must intercept and delay his forces. There is no time to raise an | | army but Duc Beauregard(The Snake) will send a large force to help us in | | return for a shipment of ale. Once the rats siege force is defeated, | | Beauregard has agreed to let us take the rats neighboring county without | | resistance. Grow hops and brew ale to send to the snake but be warned, it | | will be hard to keep your people in line whilst meeting the terms of the | | deal. Use any means at your disposal even cruelty if necessary, the rats | | force must be defeated here. | | | | | | New Available - Marketplace | | Buildings - Hops Farm | | - Brewery, Inn | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 84 Gold | | Goods - 140 Wood | | - 80 Bread | | | | Starting - 10 Archers | | Troops 6 Spearmen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This can be a bit of a tricky mission just because of where you have to | | put your wheat farms and such, first off place your granary behind your | | keep. build 10 or so wood cutters along the trees, build yourself a | | marketplace somewhere and then put down some wheat farms, if you run out of | | wood buy some at the marketplace for now. Now put down one or two hop farms | | and then build 1 or 2 breweries, put down a mill and some bakeries for when | | the wheat rolls in. Now start production on some bows by putting down some | | fletcher workshops, you will have to fight the first wave of the rats | | troops with your starting troops, it should be to difficult... place all | | your troops on the keep and use your spearmen when the rats get close. The | | one annoying part about this mission.. well there's two the first being | | that sometimes the rats archers hide behind your farms or something and | | your archers can't shoot at them properly and his archers will just kill | | your farmers and other workers. | | | | The second thing about this mission is that the snake will tell you that he | | needs a bigger order of ale and it will hike up to 15... and when you get | | close to that he will say he needs more which is 20. You can hold the rats | | troops off with your own if you can make them fast enough, you won't need | | the snakes troops but you get them anyways after you get the 20 ale which | | is a must to beat this mission. Anyways build a quarry and 1 or 2 ox | | tethers to transport the stone.. when you get 10 stone place down a small | | stone gatehouse in the middle of your farms somewhere and place all your | | archers up there, this will let your archers be able to start shooting the | | enemy sooner and will give them more accuracy then the keep. Just keep | | piling them up there and you will be able to fend off all the waves the rat | | throws at you until you are able to reach the 20 ale mark, then the rat | | will throw one big final attack at you but with the help of the snakes | | troops it should be easy as pie. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 9. The Rats Last Stand | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Defend the rats castle against it's former owner! it is very badly designed | | so you will need to strengthen it. Time spent finishing his moat would be | | well spent. This is an excellent opportunity to finish off one of the | | tyrants for good. | | | | | | New Available - Perimeter Turret, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Buildings Drawbridge | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 650 Gold | | Goods - 112 Wood | | 24 Stone | | - 98 Meat | | 92 Bread | | - 6 Spears | | | | Starting - 10 Archers | | Troops 10 Spearmen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This mission is pretty simple and hard if that makes sense, it's simple | | in the fact that you don't have to build much but it's hard in the sense | | that the rat sends a lot of troops your way. Start by building 5 or 6 wood | | cutters up into the treey area, next make some hunting posts to the right | | of the castle and maybe a few dairy farms if you can fit them in. Now you | | need to put down a marketplace, and when wood or stone comes in you need to | | sell it all and buy bows, it takes to long to make bows here so buying is | | the best option. Try not to get the population to high here, give the | | peasants extra rations and hike up the tax to start bringing in the gold. | | One thing that is a MUST here is you need to protect your granary, yes the | | one that you start off with. Surround it with as much stone as you can so | | the rats siege weapons don't bust it down... it pretty much has enough food | | in it to last the whole mission so if you lose it there's pretty much no | | way to recover. | | | | Now that everything is set move all your archers into the keep and use your | | spearmen to move outside to the left of the castle. When the fight starts | | use your spearmen to kill as many of their spearmen as you can when they | | get close, once they all die off the rats spearmen will climb the | | walls(Well most of them hopefully). This is a good thing, why? because when | | they climb the wall they will all have to walk around your castle walls to | | reach the other side where your stairs should be, meanwhile your archers | | will kill them off on there hunt to get over there. When you kill off the | | first wave just replace any buildings they bust up and continue to sell | | stuff and buy bows and train archers. Keep filling the keep with archers | | and repair the stone walls the enemy smashed in, this will make them have | | to do it all over again and with more archers now you should be able to | | finish them off easily. Also if you have the time fix the moat around the | | castle they filled in, it will just give you a way better chance of | | succeeding if the archers can't somehow do it themselves. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 10. The Snake Hunt Begins | O=============================================================================O | | |Objective : Achieve Population : 100 | | Blessed % 75 | | | | The snakes men are half way through building a castle in the next county. | | Chase out the few guards he has placed there then finish the construction | | yourself. The snake will undoubtly try to retake the castle, so defend it | | well. | | | | | | New Available - Chapel | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 700 Gold | | Goods - 180 Wood | | 32 Stone | | 8 Wheat | | - 4 Meat | | 48 Bread | | | | Starting - 11 Archers | | Troops 31 Spearmen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - A pretty simple mission here, first rush most of your spearmen on top of | | the keep, send about 8 or so to rush the 2 archers. Once they kill all of | | the snakes troops build some wood cutters around the trees and build some | | dairy farms around the keep. Once that's established start building some | | fletcher workshops and get some bows going. Now build a perimeter turret | | close to your quarry, not to close but just to the left of it. Now start | | piling all your archers in the turret, continue to expand your food | | production until you can give extra rations then raise the taxes up. Keep | | piling archers in the turret until you get around 75 archers in the turret | | and then you can focus on your objectives. This is a must for this mission | | when the snakes troops arrive delete a piece of the stairs going to your | | turret so the mace men can't get up and kill your archers. Now when you | | have your food and archers established start building some chapels until | | you reach the 75% blessed rate, and also rise your population until it | | reaches 100 and then it's a easy win. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 11. First Blood | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Advance into the next of the snakes counties and defend yourself against | | his forces. The county shares it's boarder with the wolf so stay alert as | | you will need to react quickly if he decides to show his face. | | | | | | New Available - Iron Mine | | Buildings - Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop | | | | New Available - Maceman, Crossbowmen | | Troops | | | | Starting - 700 Gold | | Goods - 86 Wood | | 20 Stone | | - 50 Meat | | - 10 Bows | | 10 Spears | | | |Starting - None | |Troops | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is one of the tougher missions, the snakes throws a few waves of men | | at you fast. Place your keep in the open green area near toward the left | | bottom, next put your granary above your keep. Extend your stockpile to | | make it about 4 squares, now put down a marketplace beside your keep to the | | left and buy wood until you have about 400 gold left. Now build about 12 or | | more wood cutters in the trees to the top and bottom, now let's lay down | | about 3 wheat farms next the keep. Once the wood comes in build a armory, a | | fletcher's workshop and a poleturner's workshop, when more wood comes build | | a mill and some bakeries... also you should build maybe 4 or 5 dairy farms | | for quicker food and you will need them later also. Raise the rations to | | extra and raise the taxes to 4 now even if you don't have that much food | | because your gonna need the gold. Now buy a little more stone so you have | | 30 pieces, put down a barracks and build a perimeter turret way to the | | northeast but not past the cliff with stone on it... just a little | | northwest of it. Now start training archers and put as many as you can up | | into the turret, once you run out of bows train spearmen and place them in | | the keep. By now the first wave of the snakes men should be coming at you, | | quickly delete a piece of stairs leading up to your turret so the macemen | | can't get up there. Continue to train spearmen and toss them up into your | | keep until the macemen reach your keep and then send your spearmen out in a | | line to attack them.. if your spearmen come at them in a line it will be | | more efficient and your spearmen will kill them faster with less deaths to | | your men. | | | | Right after the first wave of the snakes troops are dead a second one will | | come about 30 seconds after it, you should have enough gold to put down | | another poleturner's workshop now so do it. If you can train the few | | archers you can now and stuff them into the turret and delete the stairs | | again you should, also continue to train more spearmen and stick them in | | the keep. This wave of the snakes troops will be just a bit more making it | | a little harder so your gonna need as many spearmen as you can get, | | continue to use the same strategy as last time to finish this wave off. | | Once you kill them off the wolfs troops will come into play, he has quite a | | few archers and about 6 or 7 swordsman with him... and your probably gonna | | have those archers left and maybe 1 or 2 spearmen left from the last attack | | of the snake. Your archers should be able to kill all of the wolfs archers | | but they won't have much time to shoot the swordsman, so you will need to | | keep training spearmen while the swordsman slowly make their way toward | | you. You should be able to muster about 10 to 12 spearmen, you should also | | now have 2 or 3 bows in your armory... build those archers and toss them | | onto your keep so they can at least inflict little damage onto the | | swordsman. Anyways if you can build more spearmen perfect but if not you | | should be able to just squeak out a victory over the swordsman even if you | | do need your lord to attack. | | | | Once the wolfs wave of troops are dead demolish your poleturner's.. trust | | me you don't need them anymore. Soon after you should receive a message | | from a unknown person giving you plans for the crossbow! You should have | | some good gold now and plenty of wood, put down some more fletcher | | workshops and tanner workshops. Click on your fletcher workshops and | | change the bow to a crossbow, do this for all your fletcher workshops... | | this will have your craftsmen start making the crossbows. Your gonna need | | about 8 fletcher workshops and 6 or 7 tanner workshops to get the weapons | | your gonna need. Once the weapons do start coming in immediately start | | stuffing the crossbow men into the turret out in the field, you should get | | maybe 25 or more up there before the snake will launch 'his' final attack. | | All of your archers and crossbow men should be able to kill them all before | | they can get into the turret but it's always a good idea to delete a piece | | of the stairs anyways. Once their all dead continue to keep stuffing | | crossbow up there, after a little bit the wolf will attack with more | | troops. By this time you should have 50 or close to 50 crossbow men up in | | the turret and should have no problem with the wolfs troops... including | | his swordsmen. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 12. The Ransom | O=============================================================================O | | |Objectives : Acquire Gold : 12000 | | | | Your spies report that the snake has been ferrying gold into one of his | | counties where he is hastily erecting a castle. Launch a surprise attack so | | you can take his gold for yourself. We have sent along some tunnelers to | | help you take the castle. | | | | | |New Available - None | |Buildings | | | |New Available - None | |Troops | | | |Starting - 1000 Gold | |Goods - 221 Wood | | 73 Stone | | 15 Ore | | 6 Hops | | - 107 Meat | | 41 Cheese | | - 6 Bows | | 6 Leather Armor | | | |Starting - 14 Archers | |Troops 9 Spearmen | | 41 Macemen | | 8 Crossbow Men | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - First use a tunneler to take down a wall or turret, next just rush your | | macemen in and kill all there archers and such to take over the castle. Now | | that you have the castle let's get going on defending it above all else, | | acquiring 12000 gold right now is last on our list. Start like usual by | | building some wood cutters, wheat farms, dairy farms, bakeries, mills and | | all that good stuff. The snakes men will be coming in from the north where | | the sign post is so build a perimeter turret to the north of your castle | | but not to close to the sign post.. maybe half way or a little more toward | | your castle. Anyways shove all your archers up there for now, now begin the | | process of making crossbow men by building fletcher workshops and tanner | | workshops. Continue to just work on shoving your crossbow men up there | | until you get about 80 to 90 up there, yes this will be a long mission | | because of this but this is how it must be done. Okay so when the snake | | attacks for the first 5 or 6 times your archers and crossbow men won't be | | able to pick them all off, this is where the rest of your macemen and | | spearmen come in. Move all of your melee troops to the left of the castle | | because the macemen from the snakes men will almost always run over here, | | once they get over there kill them with your men and keep doing this until | | you reach your 80 to 90 crossbow men mark. | | | | Just a piece of advise the odd 2 or 3 macemen from the snakes troops will | | go to the right and odds are you won't see them, but what you will hear is | | buildings blowing up from them attacking them so it's a good idea to search | | the map a bit after each wave of attacks. Also the snakes men will attack | | ever 30 seconds or so in good size waves, except for the beginning it gives | | you a chance to get everything ready. So follow doing this strategy until | | you can get all those crossbow men up there then they should be able to | | kill each wave without a single enemy getting by, now is the time to build | | the extra iron mines and quarries to sell their produce off. Also you can | | raise the taxes anytime during this mission to help you build more | | workshops for more weapons and it will also help you reach your 12000 gold | | goal faster. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 13. Snake Eyes | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Kill The Snake | | | | The snakes new castle lies in a valley across from the old one! We have | | already occupied his old fort, build it up until you are strong enough to | | lay siege to the snakes last castle to finish him off for good. Should you | | succeed, pull out immediately as we don't have nearly enough men to take on | | the wolfs main army. | | | | | | New Available - Defense Turret, Engineers Guild, Large Stone | | Buildings Gatehouse | | | | New Available - Engineer | | Troops | | | | Starting - 800 Gold | | Goods - 185 Wood | | 61 Stone | | 43 Wheat | | 11 Flour | | - 58 Cheese | | 125 Bread | | - 7 Bows | | | | Starting - 13 Archers | | Troops 10 Macemen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a fairly easy mission but is kind of long, you want to start by | | putting all of your archers and crossbow men in the northern most square | | tower. Next move your macemen near it to help protect them once the pig | | sends his first wave, now build up your wood and food supplies and then put | | down some fletcher and tanner workshops for crossbow men. Build another | | square turret right on the edge of the cliff to the north of your current | | turret your using, now just pile crossbow men up there until they can kill | | each of the pigs waves of men without them getting close.. that should be | | around 60 crossbow men and up, I like to have at least 75 in there for good | | measure. Once you have your defense set up it's time to start your offense, | | build about 50 more crossbow men and stick them somewhere safe for now. Get | | started on building macemen now.. I like to over due things so build about | | 100 macemen or however many you think you can do it with and get ready to | | lay siege to the snakes castle. Start by sending your macemen in to take | | down the walls and turrets, while they are bringing them down have your 50 | | crossbow men fire at the snakes archers, crossbow men and ballista's. Keep | | pushing forward and eventually you will be into the snakes keep area... | | just send all your macemen at him and he will go down quick. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 14. The Mountain Pass | O=============================================================================O | | |Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Your scouts report that there is a fort built into the mountain pass up | | ahead. If you fortify your garrison here, hopefully the pigs horde will | | come to you. Our mysterious friends have sent more plans, this time for a | | large tower mounted ballista. This should prove invaluable against the pigs | | war machines. | | | | | | New Available - Square Turret | | Buildings | | | | New Available - Tower Ballista | | Troops | | | | Starting - 1000 Gold | | Goods - 130 Wood | | 6 Stone | | 4 Ore | | 3 Hops | | - 151 Cheese | | 5 Bread | | - 3 Bows | | 5 Spears | | 2 Maces | | 1 Leather Armor | | | | Starting - 10 Archers | | Troops 11 Spearmen | | 14 Macemen | | 2 Crossbow Men | | 1 Tower Ballista | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Retreat all your archers back to the second gatehouse first off, next | | start production of bows, crossbows and leather armor. Next build more | | dairy farms to support your food, now build the available archers you can | | and place them into the second gatehouse with your other archers. Your | | gonna need iron for gold income so build a lot of iron mines in the iron | | field above your keep. Now just concentrate on training archers and | | crossbow men into the gatehouse and surrounding turrets. If you can put up | | more square turrets around the gatehouse and put up tower ballista's and | | arm them with engineers, just focus on training as many bowmen as you can | | to stop the waves of macemen. When the pigs battering rams start to come up | | immediately bust them up with all of your archers, you do not want these | | things smashing in your walls because they do it quickly. Also another good | | idea would be to reinforce your walls by thickening them up, whatever you | | do, do not let them pass the second gatehouse! | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 15. Carving A Path | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Fight your way through the pigs home county and escape into the fenlands on | | the other side. You will need to strike hard and fast before the pig | | returns with his main force. Storm the gatehouse of the pigs castle with a | | ram, dispatch the garrison and hide in the fenlands beyond. | | | | | | New Available - None | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - None | | Goods | | | | Starting - 19 Archers | | Troops 69 Spearmen | | 18 Macemen | | 6 Crossbow Men | | 6 Ladder Men | | 5 Tunnelers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a timed mission so you can't just take your time here, start off | | by getting all your archers and crossbow men together, this is a little | | trick you have to do to beat this mission. Slowly move your archers and | | crossbow men toward the bottom left turret, don't get close enough for them | | to start shooting you though... when your troops get close enough you will | | be able to shoot them without them firing back, but before you do this | | about 8 or so macemen will come out of the castle and come at your archers | | so kill them first before or during you start killing there archers and | | crossbow men. Once you kill the macemen and all the archers and crossbow | | men in the bottom left turret use the same technique to kill the other | | archers and crossbow men in the turrets on the left side of the castle. | | Once they are all dead move in some spearmen to fill in the moat on the | | left side of the castle, fill it in on the back and front portions of the | | castle. | | | | When the moat is sufficiently filled in use those few spearmen to bring | | down a piece of wall on the back and front part of the castle to where you | | can get men into the castle, now use all your spearmen and charge into the | | back part of the castle and get them up the stairs and kill their archers | | and crossbow men on the second gatehouse and the 2 turrets surrounding it. | | When they are dead keep using your spearmen to walk around the stone wall | | and go from turret to turret killing the other archers until they kill all | | your spearmen, now use your macemen to finish off the rest of their troops | | in the back part of the castle. Now use your macemen and charge into the | | front part of the castle, quickly get them up the stairs that should be | | right beside you and into the bottom left turret now quickly rush them over | | to kill the archers and crossbow men on the gatehouse and then finally to | | kill the crossbow men in the other turret, finally use your macemen to kill | | off the pikemen... if by chance the pikemen survive there will only be 1 or | | 2 left so clean them up with your archers. Now that all the pigs troops are | | dead you will obtain victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 16. Fighting Retreat | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 400 Stone | | | | Hold off against the pigs attack long enough to help the monks collect the | | stone they need, then make your retreat. The swamp is your biggest | | advantage here as a natural defense and as a source of pitch. The monks | | have told you about their 'river of fire' so use pitch ditches to good | | effect. This land is also favorable to the production of apples. | | | | | | New Available - Pitch Rig | | Buildings - Apple Orchard | | - Church | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 600 Gold | | Goods - 106 Wood | | 30 Stone | | 10 Ore | | 10 Pitch | | - 50 Meat | | 30 Cheese | | | | Starting - 4 Archers | | Troops 4 Spearmen | | 15 Monks | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This mission isn't to difficult if it is executed properly, first place a | | marketplace down and buy some extra wood. Get your wood and food supplies | | going first, stick with apples here... get enough to get extra rations and | | raise the taxes, next demolish the tanners workshop because were not gonna | | be making crossbow men this mission simply because they take to long to | | make and we need archers fast. Build a armory a barracks and more fletcher | | workshops, remember only build simple bows. Now build a square turret just | | pass where your pitch is all set up and put a brazier up there so you can | | light up the pitch, you should now be out of stone so just demolish your | | old turret and the stone and wood walls. Now group your monks and spearmen | | together, your gonna need to use the pitch you have and the pitch you get | | to help out in the fights. When the first wave attacks delete a piece of | | steps and when the macemen group up and go near a piece of pitch light it | | on fire to weaken most of them and even kill some. When the macemen pass | | the pitch fields use your monks and spearmen to kill them. Once the first | | wave is dead train more archers and put them up into the tower, also build | | a few more pitch rigs for more incoming pitch... when it comes in just lay | | more pitch where the macemen and pikemen charge in. After 2 more waves or | | so you should have a good amount of archers up there, so begin production | | of the stone you need. Once you get about 100 archers in the tower build | | some poleturner workshops if you want some extra protection for the lord. | | After awhile and a few more waves you should have all the stone you need. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 17. Smokey Bacon | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Use the resources you have gathered to rebuild and defend the ancient | | monastery. Your army has left a clear path through the boggy grassland so | | it will not be long before the pig finds you. Use pikemen to block the pigs | | troops and have engineers boil pitch. To maximize effort, pour the boiling | | pitch on his troops from height. | | | | | | New Available - Round Tower, Oil Smelter | | Buildings - Cathedral | | - Armorers Workshop | | | | New Available - Pikeman | | Troops | | | | Starting - 1000 Gold | | Goods - 131 Wood | | 222 Stone | | 17 Ore | | 50 Wheat | | - 34 Meat | | 33 Apples | | - 10 Pikes | | 10 Metal Armor | | | | Starting - 3 Macemen | | Troops 10 Crossbow Men | | 4 Engineers | | 8 Monks | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Firstly demolish all off the stone rubble buildings around the castle, | | next get some apple orchards up and wood cutters. Now buy some more wood | | and put down some tanner workshops with some dairy farms for them and some | | fletcher workshops. You need to get some more crossbow men fast before the | | pigs wave of troops come so buy some crossbows and leather armor... maybe | | 10 each. Train the crossbow men and put all off them in the top right | | turret, now finish off your castle... try to double layer it with stone. | | Continue to train crossbow men as the weapons and armor come in, when the | | pigs troops finally show up your gonna need to use your boiling pitch to | | help kill off the macemen and pikemen. Usually the macemen will run in a | | big pack along the front of your castle so it's good to pour it in their | | path to kill and weaken them. | | | | Make sure to have your monks and macemen in your keep at this time, if the | | pigs macemen get through your wall which they most likely will you have to | | send your monks and macemen after them to kill them. Your crossbow men | | should clean most of the pikemen up as long as you help them out with a | | little boiling pitch. After the first wave is done you need to continue to | | train crossbow men and toss them up into the turret, also it wouldn't hurt | | to have a tower ballista or manganel up in the turret. Your gonna need some | | extra gold so raise the taxes and the food level to extra rations... just | | make sure you got a good number of apple orchards so you can do this | | safely. If you have some spare gold buy the weapons as well, you can never | | have enough crossbow men. If you continue to train your crossbow men and | | move them around the castle to kill off the pigs waves you will succeed. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 18. End Of The Pig | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Kill The Pig | | | | You have been charged to overthrow the pigs final county by laying siege to | | his stronghold. You have besieged this castle before but it has since been | | rebuilt and now has a full garrison so will prove to be a far greater | | challenge. Our simple but direct approach last time with the battering ram | | may not now be enough. Build some siege towers to scale his tall walls. | | | | | | New Available - None | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - None | | Goods | | | | Starting - 19 Archers | | Troops 251 Spearmen | | 226 Macemen | | 6 Crossbow Men | | 12 Ladder men | | 1 Tunneler | | 1 Siege Tower | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is pretty much the same mission as number 15, Carving A Path, except | | for a few things. One, he has at least triple if not four times as many | | troops in his castle, second, there is pitch ditches all around his castle | | so if you charge it one of his archers will light it up and odds are all of | | your men in it are done for, lastly, he has killing pits around the left | | side of his castle which is pretty much as deadly as pitch because there's | | a lot of them. This time you get a lot more troops to raid his castle, you | | have to pretty much stick to the same game plan as last time. Use your | | archers to wipe out as many as his archers on turrets as you can, but be | | careful of going to the left side remember if you get to close while | | shooting the archers in turrets deeper into the castle you can step onto | | those killing pits and lose most or all of your archers. | | | | Sacrificing spearmen here to step on and use up all of those killing pits | | so your archers can move forward can be a big advantage, yes true you might | | lose 50 - 75 spearmen but your archers will kill a lot of the pigs main | | troops and you have plenty of reserve troops. Once your archers have | | cleaned up all of the pigs archers and crossbow men on the left side start | | digging in the moat on the left side to get into the back part of the pigs | | castle. Don't use to many spearmen... maybe 20 or so just in case one | | archer on the other side of the castle lights up the pitch, once the moat | | is sufficiently dug into the wall start bringing a piece of it down with | | the spearmen and when it's down send all your spearmen into the keep, odds | | are a archer will light the pitch all around the keep and kill most of your | | spearmen. You probably won't kill the pig just yet but once the fire goes | | away use your macemen to charge in to finish him off. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 19. Penning In The Wolf | O=============================================================================O | | | Objective : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Pen the wolf in by reinforcing the defensive fort we have started on the | | edge of his territory, then let his men come to you. They are likely to try | | and infect your people with disease to ensure you have contingencies in | | place for their arrival. Use swordsmen and manganels to your best | | advantage. | | | | | | New Available - Tunnelers Guild | | Buildings - Apothecary | | | | New Available - Swordsman | | Troops | | | | Starting - 1524 Gold | | Goods - 188 Wood | | 195 Stone | | 17 Ore | | 4 Pitch | | 64 Wheat | | - 67 Cheese | | 89 Bread | | - 5 Bows | | | | Starting - 5 Archers | | Troops 4 Crossbow Men | | 2 Swordsmen | | 3 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - I hate this mission, it's next to impossible when playing on very hard | | and having diseased cows flying at you is no fun either. Basically the key | | to winning here if you can win here is to build 5 to 6 turrets and have | | manganels on them and hope that they kill enough of the wolfs troops on the | | way to attack, just stick to making archers because you will need a lot of | | them to kill off his archers... crossbow men take to long here and you | | can't produce enough of them. Also your engineers with boiling pitch can be | | a good advantage here, once the swordsman start attacking the walls pour | | the boiling pitch on them to roast them up. You get very limited space | | here so it's hard to keep food going good and build weapons so it's best to | | buy bows and sell off iron if you can get some going. Also you should | | demolish the gatehouse where the wolfs troops try to get in and just make a | | thick wall there.. maybe 3 or 4 layers. After all this say a prayer because | | this isn't 100% full proof all the time, if you stick to my strategy though | | you should come out victories most of the time... good luck. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 20. Much Wailing And Gnashing OF The Teeth * | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Build up your forces and the castle itself and defend your current position | | until Sir Longarm arrives with reinforcements. You will be defending | | yourself against the wolfs entire army in the biggest siege you have ever | | faced. Use knights to conduct sorties out of the castle. | | | | | | New Available - Stable | | Buildings | | | | New Available - Knight | | Troops | | | | Starting - 2500 Gold | | Goods - 76 Wood | | 32 Stone | | 48 Ore | | 67 Pitch | | 88 Flour | | - 140 Cheese | | 141 Bread | | - 21 Bows | | 1 Mace | | 28 Crossbows | | 57 Swords | | 12 Leather Armor | | 57 Metal Armor | | | | Starting - 24 Archers | | Troops 4 Crossbow Men | | 3 Pikemen | | 2 Swordsmen | | 17 Engineers | | 1 Manganel | | 1 Tower Ballista | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This mission looks pretty tough but isn't to bad if executed properly, | | first get your food going by putting down some wheat farms and a good | | amount of bakeries... if your wondering where to put it all you don't need | | much of anything but your barracks and one oil smelter in the open field so | | just put the majority of your bakeries in the field below there. You won't | | have much time to make weapons so that pretty much out of the question, one | | thing that is good about this mission is you start out with a good amount | | of gold and you get plenty of weapons to start. Make all the archers and | | crossbow men you can and stuff them into the to front round towers, also | | get some engineers with boiling pitch up there and around your second | | gatehouse and walls. Your archers and crossbow men should be able to clean | | this wave up if you have enough of them.. if not make some swordsmen with | | the 57 amounts of swords and armor. | | | | The second wave you may have to fall back to the second gatehouse with all | | off your archers and crossbow men, by then you should have most if not all | | of your swordsmen up and ready.. sell some iron and pitch to buy crossbows | | and leather armor during the battles and train more crossbow men for a | | stronger defense. After each wave you should repair the second gatehouse | | and surrounding walls, after two waves your front part of the castle will | | probably be a total loss... but leave the rubble to help block from | | trebuchet rocks and catapult rocks. If you can for the forth wave put some | | pitch to burn and weaken the wolfs troops, also move your swordsmen back | | into the keep. When the wolfs troops break through your wall let your | | archers and crossbow men weaken the wolfs troops as much as possible before | | sending your swordsmen at them... probably when they are near the keep is | | when to send your troops at them. Yes it will appear they have more | | swordsmen then you but your troops should be a lot fresher with more energy | | and his will be weak from your archers and crossbow men so you should | | easily kill them all with less than half of your swordsmen dying. With this | | wave done you win. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 21. Final Vengeance | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Kill The Wolf | | | | Put an end to the wolf using the combined forces of Sir Longarm and the | | king. You have vanished the majority of his main army but the wolf still | | has many men left and his stronghold is rumored to be impenetrable. He has | | discovered the secret of boiling oil so do not approach to quickly. Instead | | make use of the new trebuchet to weaken him from afar. | | | | | | New Available - None | | Buildings | | | | New Available - None | | Troops | | | | Starting - 1000 Gold | | Goods | | | | Starting - 22 Archers | | Troops 44 Spearmen | | 10 Macemen | | 14 Crossbow Men | | 12 Swordsmen | | 5 Knights | | 5 Engineers | | 1 Catapult | | 1 Battering Ram | | 1 Siege Tower | | 2 Portable Shields | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - The strategy here kind of takes after when you go after the pig, at least | | when your archers come into play. First thing that needs done is to take | | out those two round turrets at the front of the castle, to do this you need | | to set up a trebuchet where you can shoot rocks from it without having the | | ballista's shoot at you... that shot is in the tree area but not to far in. | | Take 3 engineers and set up a trebuchet in there and make sure your not | | getting fired upon, now take aim at the gatehouse... this will make your | | trebuchet hit all three off the buildings here. Once you run out of rock | | shoot the diseased cattle at the troops on the ground to weaken them, now | | disband the trebuchet but quick select and move your engineers before they | | disappear so you can use them again, set up another trebuchet and continue | | shooting until the 2 turrets and the gatehouse is down. Now use your | | archers to clean up the archers in the front there, on the turret and the | | ground. Now when you can get close enough build another trebuchet closer | | but where the last ballista can't shoot at your trebuchet, there's another | | turret in front of the one with the ballista on it so it's pretty likely | | you will have to take it down before you can get at it... your probably | | gonna need 2 trebuchets again to do this. | | | | Once it's done slowly move your archers in to take out the rest of the | | archers in the front part of the castle, but be careful one of their | | archers doesn't get a good shot off because there is pitch all around you | | and it will go up in flames. Now that all the archers are dead send in | | 12 - 16 spearmen at the gatehouse, this will likely cause other archers | | further back to set the pitch on fire which is good... one thing your | | looking to do here is have them set the pitch in front of the stairs on | | fire. Once it burns out quickly get your archers and crossbow men in the | | turret up the stairs, have them start shooting at all the rest of the | | archers around you until they are dead, you should be able to kill all the | | archers and crossbow men here except the ones on the keep and the very back | | turret. From here get something to take down the second gatehouse and send | | your knights in to kill the few pikemen and swordsmen in this little area | | and have them bring down the last gatehouse... have them kill as many | | ground units as they can. Now select all of your spearmen and have them | | rush the keep, once they get close a archer will set the hole front part of | | the keep up in flames from the pitch. Once it burns out rush your swordsman | | and macemen up the keep and kill the wolf! | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Playing A Siege ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Playing a siege is basically like playing an extra mission, but you have 2 choices.. you can choose to be defending or attacking. I will go through both strategies for each mission here: O=============================================================================O | 1. Castell Y Bere - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Following a dispute with his son Gruffudd in 1221, Llywelyn Fawn took over | | his territories of Meirionydd and Ardudwy in southern Gwyneed and began to | | build Castell Y Bere. The castle was built on an elongated plateau of rock | | in the upper Dysynni valley. On the 25th of April 1283, Castell Y Bere was | | surrendered to king Edwards forces. Castell Y Bere was the last of the | | welsh castles to fall to Edward. But despite the kings attempt to quell | | forcibly any resistance by his ambitious castle building scheme, the welsh | | rebelled in 1294, and the self-proclaimed Price of Wales, Madog Ap Llywelyn | | led the north wales mob. By the time they were stomped out in the following | | year, Castell Y Bere was a gutted shell. All that remains today is a few | | pieces of rock and the outline of the huge keep. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 600 Gold | | - 1 Wood | | 10 Stone | | | | Starting Troops - 85 Archers | | 11 Spearmen | | 6 Crossbow Men | | 2 Swordsmen | | 1 Tower Ballista | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a tough little mission, your massively out numbered here. You | | need to start by quickly moving all of your archers to the front of the | | castle... next you have to use those little bits of pitch out in the field | | to your advantage. What you want to do is weaken and kill as many of the | | enemies swordsmen as you can so as their swordsmen are walking up you need | | to light those pieces of pitch up so they burn them, also it wouldn't hurt | | to burn some of the pikemen to if you get the chance but mainly the | | swordsmen. Once they surround the castle fall all of your troops and I mean | | all of them back into the keep... cram them all up into it, it's very | | likely the pikemen are gonna get in first and they usually hang out in | | front of the keep until the swordsmen make it close to the keep, just leave | | everything be where your archers are shooting everyone until the swordsmen | | get close and then they will start to pile in... what you want to do now | | which seems like suicide is select all of your troops and move them out of | | the keep and toward the swordsmen... don't select them to attack them just | | move "past" them so they stay in a perfect line, this compacts the damage | | they do so if 5 pikemen or so get in at a time they are wiped out real | | quick before they do any damage hardly, so do this so they stay in a line. | | Now hopefully you have weakened the swordsmen enough so that your archers, | | spearmen and 2 swordsmen can go right through them. Once the swordsmen die | | pack all your troops back into the keep, you should still have at least 25 | | archers left minimum, all that's left now is knights which can't get into | | the keep so your archers will kill them in awhile. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 1. Castell Y Bere - Attacking | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 600 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 70 Archers These are the default troops | | 70 Spearmen and you can choose to change | | 14 Pikemen )-- them by selecting 'Advanced' | | 10 Swordsmen / and modifying the troops | | 7 Knights / within the points given to | | you. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a very hard mission and is impossible with the troops you are | | started with by default, so switch the troops up in the advanced tab. Pick | | roughly 60 pikemen, 5 archers and 50 to 60 Ladder Men, when you start the | | mission have your few archers kill the 2 archers just above you on the | | hill. Next use about 12 Ladder Men to run around in the open field directly | | above where you start so the enemy archers light up the pitch on the | | ground. Keep sending 12 or so Ladder Men to help light the pitch up as much | | as possibly until they are all dead, next send your pikemen in 10's or so | | to start taking down the wall in the left side of the castle so you can | | rush the keep once you open up the walls. When a slot of wall opens up send | | all your pikemen left up into the keep to slay the lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. Gluecksburg - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Gluecksburg is completely surrounded by natural lake and is considered to | | be the most important example of renaissance architecture in | | Schleswig-Holstein. Nikel Karies, a master builder from nearby Flesburg, | | built the castle between 1583 and 1587. In 1848, during the | | Schleswig-Holstein uprising, the danish devasted the castle but king | | Friedrich the 7th chose it as his summer residence some years later and had | | it refitted. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - None | | | | Starting Troops - 24 Archers | | 12 Crossbow Men | | 6 Pikemen | | 4 Swordsmen | | 1 Knight | | 5 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This mission is a challenge and is fun to play, move all of your bowmen | | to the front of the castle. Let your archers kill the easy spearmen when | | they come, only light the pitch up when it's most useful, like when a large | | group of swordsman is on it. The biggest part of winning this mission is | | your engineers pouring boiling pitch on the enemy, again wait for when the | | swordsmen start taking down your turrets then pour it on them to kill them | | quickly... once they pour it make sure they refill and run back because | | they don't always do it on their own. If you do this just right they won't | | be able to even take down one of your turrets, or if you just barely squeak | | by you will end up on your keep with all of your troops up there hoping | | your archers will kill all of the on coming spearmen. If you find yourself | | in this position make sure you have at least 2 engineers with boiling pitch | | up there with you, and when all the spearmen come pour it on them right in | | front of the keep... odds are they will burn up before they can get into | | the keep. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. Once their archers and crossbow men are dead just sit in | | the field and shoot all of your arrows at the lord, it might take a couple | | of minutes for him to die but it's an easy victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. Guadamur - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Guadamur was built in the latter half of the 15 century by D. Pedro Lopez | | de Ayala and is located approximately 12 kilometers west of Toledo. Often | | referred to as one of the most aesthetic castles in Spain, Guadamur castles | | lies on a flat plain of land, unlike most Spanish castles which are built | | on large hills, while the fortifications are not as substantial as most | | castles of it's period. The castle was burned by French invaders in 1809 | | and remained in ruins, until it's restoration in the late 19th century. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 800 Gold | | - 18 Wood | | 1 Stone | | 10 Pitch | | | | Starting Troops - 34 Archers | | 10 Macemen | | 15 Crossbow Men | | 2 Swordsmen | | 6 Knights | | 2 manganels | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - With most of these missions using the pitch is the key to winning, place | | all of your archers and crossbow men in the two front turrets. Have your | | manganels start shooting their rocks into the enemy troops, this will help | | a lot as it will take out roughly 50 enemy troops whether they be archers, | | swordsmen or macemen. Once the swordsmen start stepping on the pitch light | | it up to weaken and kill them, this is pretty much the only thing you have | | to do, your archers will clean most of the spearmen up and when the | | swordsmen and few macemen get near the keep let lose the dogs and when they | | get up into the keep send your macemen and swordsmen at them... also there | | is some pitch in front of the keep you can light up if a good number of | | swordsmen are close to the keep. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. Use the | | archer technique on all off the enemy archers and crossbow men. Then simply | | walk in with your swordsmen or whatever and take down the walls and kill | | the enemy lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. Heidelberg - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | On the summit of Jetternburl, which dominates the eastern portion of the | | city of Heidelberg, is Heidelberg castle, also known as the red walled | | castle and is thought to have been built over several slow, small steps | | between the 14th and 17th century. The castle is noted for not having any | | uniform constructional plan and no common building line. It was neglected | | after being occupied during the thirty year war(1618-1648) but was repaired | | after being turned over to Bavaria before being reduced to ruins by french | | troops in 1689. The castle was then damaged some more by a lightning storm | | in 1764 before being partly restored during the romantic movement. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 1200 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 53 Archers | | 5 Spearmen | | 14 Crossbow Men | | 6 Knights | | 14 Engineers | | 2 Manganels | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - An easy victory here, move all your bowmen to the front of the castle and | | let them do their thing, try to use all of your archers to kill all of | | there siege machines which are 3 battering rams and a siege tower. Have | | your engineer pour boiling oil on the rams if they should make it to the | | gatehouse, if they do manage to bust down your gatehouse you have plenty of | | engineers with boiling pitch to burn up all of their pikemen... like I said | | an easy victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. Use the archer | | technique to kill off all the enemies archers and crossbow men, once gone | | bust down the gate with your melee troops and then through the next gate | | and send all your troops up to kill the enemy lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. Javier - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | The castle of Javier is located in the province of Navarra, Spain, and is | | approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Pamplana. Javier is thought to be | | a fine example of Spanish military architecture and was originally | | constructed in the 10th century as an Arab Fortress. The Arab contributions | | to the castle, however, have since been replaced or were heavily modified | | during subsequent centuries. The tower of homage(or keep), which can be | | seen through the main gate of Javier, is the oldest known fortification | | tower in Navarra and built during the latter part of the 10th century. The | | rest of the castle was then built around this tower in the 11th century. By | | the early 16th century the castle was very well renown for it's | | fortifications. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 13 Stone | | | | Starting Troops - 26 Archers | | 19 spearmen | | 3 Crossbowmen | | 2 Knights | | 2 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Have all of your bowmen to the front of the castle, a lot of spearmen | | will charge up and go for the walls.. release the dogs when they get close | | on the left side and one on the right. Just let your archers keep mowing | | them down, the thing you have to do here is stop the swordsmen... they have | | a way of taking down your gatehouse and before you know it the last hundred | | spearmen will rush in and kill your lord. So once the swordsmen reach the | | gatehouse pour some boiling pitch on them to kill them off, your archers | | should do almost everything else. The odd time a few spearmen get in from | | the Ladder Men but use your knights and spearmen to clean them up to a | | victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. Then | | just knock down the gatehouse with the pikemen and rush the keep to kill | | off the lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 6. Leeds - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Leads castle is a norman castle that was first built 900 years ago by Henry | | the first(William the conquerors son). The castle is named after the | | village of Leeds in Kent, of which the Saxon name would of been 'Esledes'. | | Leeds castle has had quite an extensive history including being home to at | | least six queens during the medieval period and the main residence of Henry | | the eighth who spent a lot of money and time updating the castle while | | still retaining it's defenses. Once, during the 17th century, Leeds was | | used as a prison for 600 captured French and Dutch sailors. During this | | time the prisoners managed to set fire to the entire castle and the entire | | eastern wall fell into the moat and was not repaired until 1822, nowadays, | | Leeds is still standing amongst 500 acres of beautiful parkland. The river | | Len feeds the moat of Leeds. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 800 Gold | | - 144 Wood | | 29 Stone | | | | Starting Troops - 47 Archers | | 17 Macemen | | 22 Crossbow Men | | 5 Pikemen | | 5 Swordsmen | | 13 Knights | | 5 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Now this is a challenge! Move every single archer and crossbow men off | | into the right side gatehouse and turrets, they will do by far the most | | damage there. Place all off your engineers with boiling pitch into the keep | | along with all off your macemen, swordsmen and pikemen. When they dig in | | the moat and the swordsmen start marching in light up the pieces of pitch | | that they stand on for the best effect. Eventually they will get through | | the second gatehouse when they do and they have a lot of troops on the | | other side of it move all of your archers and crossbow men on top of your | | second gatehouse carefully, not to run into any of their troops. Once they | | are on there they will kill and weaken a lot of the pikemen and swordsmen, | | and yet again eventually they will bust into both gatehouses leading to | | your keep... when they do that and there is a pile of pikemen or swordsmen | | let one of your boiling pitches go right in their path, this is insanely | | effect. You have four more boiling pitch tosses so use them each time there | | is a lot of troops in the little path here, and when you run out you should | | have enough macemen, pikemen and swordsmen to clean up the rest along with | | your archers and crossbow men weakening any that come for your lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 6. Leeds - Attacking | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 800 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 68 Macemen These are the default troops | | 35 Crossbow Men and you can choose to change | | 70 Pikemen )-- them by selecting 'Advanced' | | 70 Swordsmen / and modifying the troops | | 24 Engineers / within the points given to | | you. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Again use the archer shot technique to eliminate all the archers around | | the castle, fill in the moat with some pikemen or macemen. Every time you | | get further in use your archers or crossbow men to continue to wipe out any | | threat to your melee troops, continue to do this until you reach the keep | | and rush it for the victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 7. Monteriggioni - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Monteriggioni is without doubt one of the most classical and best-known | | Italian walled towns. The walls, which are still nearly intact today, cover | | a length of 570 meters and are alternated by 14 towers and two gates. The | | Senese gate rises at the base of the tower while the gate facing towards | | Florence is defended from one of the towers of the fortified perimeter | | wall. The hill where Monteriggioni riser is natural, even though it does | | not seem to resemble the artificial hills used for the Norman's mighty | | motle and Bailey castles. The walls are circular and were placed by | | following the grounds natural curves. The town itself was built by the | | Senesis in the years 1213-1219 on a hillock at dominion and overlooks the | | cassia road. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 1000 Gold | | - 30 Wood | | 40 Stone | | 10 Pitch | | | | Starting Troops - 30 Archers | | 32 Crossbow Men | | 22 Pikemen | | 2 Swordsmen | | 20 Knights | | 12 Engineers | | 6 Monks | | 6 Tower Ballista's | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - I don't know if it's just my copy or they didn't program this mission | | properly but for some reason the mission starts fine and then all of the | | enemy troops will march to the bottom of the map and just sit there while | | I can just kill them. So the strategy is fairly simple, just kill them all | | with your archers and crossbow men for an easy victory because they won't | | really fight back in force. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 7. Monteriggioni - Attacking | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 1000 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 49 Archers These are the default troops | | 21 Crossbow Men and you can choose to change | | 38 Swordsmen )-- them by selecting 'Advanced' | | 28 Engineers / and modifying the troops | | 56 Monks / within the points given to | | you. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - There's two way to go about this one, first you should change your troops | | to mostly crossbow men and some swordsmen or pikemen.. say around 20 - 25 | | again. Now you can take all of your crossbow men and rush up to the castle | | and use them to take out their tower ballista's and few archers at this | | side of the castle but you will lose quite a few men this way. Second you | | can move your entire army around the castle to the other side where there | | is only archers in the turrets, going this way you should lose fewer troops | | on the move, their tower ballista will still get you but not quite as bad. | | After you make your choice just continue to use the archer shot technique | | you wipe out all of the archers and then bust down a piece of wall and rush | | the keep to victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 8. Wartburg - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | The german castle of wartburg sits on a hill looking over the town of | | Eisenach, Thuringia. The castle, which started construction in around 1067 | | by ludwig the leaper, sits on top of a mountain crest 1300 feet above sea | | level. During ten months in between 1521 and 1522, wartburg castle provided | | refuge for martin luther. During this time luther translated the old | | testament into german. Other famous people known to have stayed at the | | castle over the centuries includes the saint, elizabeth of hungary who was | | the wife of ludwig 4th. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 1200 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 29 Archers | | 47 Crossbow Men | | 16 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a easy mission, as usual move your bowmen to the front left part | | of the castle where the enemy troops come in. Light up the pitch at the | | right time and when all the swordsmen fan out just move into the keep and | | when they get through the castle all of your crossbow men will kill them | | all before they reach the keep. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 8. Windsor 1070 - Defending | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | William the conqueror chose the site for Windsor, Englands largest castle, | | 900 years ago in 1070 and was designed with the intention of guarding the | | western approaches to london. Starting life as a simple wooden stockade, it | | was to be the first of a chain of fortifications built around london by the | | Norman's to control the south-east of england. Each castle in the chain | | would be no more than a days march on foot in case of invasions. Windsor's | | commanding position, on a hill overlooking the thames, was the natural | | place for the principal building in the area at the time. Windsor has only | | ever been the scene of military action twice in both cases a siege, and | | within only 22 years of each other, in 1193 and 1215. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 200 Gold | | - 149 Wood | | | | Starting Troops - 39 Archers | | 40 Spearmen | | 4 Pikemen | | 2 Swordsman | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Move all of your archers onto the small platforms, make sure to keep | | selecting them and putting the ones that are on the stairs or just in front | | of the platform back onto the actual platform. Keep them there for as long | | as you can so they clean up the archers and most of the spearmen, only move | | them back into the keep when they are just about through into the keep | | area. Also you should already have all off your spearmen, pikemen and | | swordsmen up in the keep already. Use your melee troops when the spearmen | | start getting into the keep, your archers will slim down the spearmen that | | get into the keep so you should never be overwhelmed. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 9. Select about 75-100 crossbow men and the rest in | | pikemen, when the mission start select all of your crossbow men and move | | them right by the moat, they will kill all of the archers in range and will | | let your pikemen dig the moat with no attack. Once the moat is dug start | | bringing down the wood wall and then the small wooden gatehouse. After this | | just rush the keep with your many many troops for a very easy victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Playing A Invasion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Playing an invasion is pretty much like the military campaign, it's just extra missions involving the 4 lords from the military campaign. O=============================================================================O | 1. Defending The Homeland | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | With the king gone but a few days two of our adversaries have dispatched | | seige forces to probe the strength of our defenses. The king now has need | | of you earlier then planned. Make haste to the blasted heath to the south, | | there is a small castle there. Bolster it's defenses and hold off the enemy | | as best you can. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Small Stone | | Gatehouse, Drawbridge | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Pitch Rig | | - Hunters Post, Dairy Farm | | - Hovel | | - Fletchers Workhouse, Poleturners Workshop | | - Granary | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman | | | | Starting Goods - 500 Gold | | - 80 Wood | | 85 Stone | | 15 Pitch | | - 65 Meat | | | | Starting Troops - 8 Archers | | 4 Spearmen | | 1 Manganel | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Probably the hardest mission ever, you need to place down some more wood | | cutters and dairy farms to get your wood and food going, also some more | | hunter posts would help. Right after you have to start production of a lot | | of bows, I know it's hard.. set down 5 fletcher workshops so you will be | | left with no money. Once the food starts coming in raise the taxes and | | raise to extra rations, once the bows come in train the archers and send | | all you have to the front turret for now. When the first attack comes in | | just leave your archers to clean up as much as they can and when the | | spearmen make it around send some archers to the back to help kill them | | off. Rebuild any stuff that was destroyed and keep continuing to train | | those archers cause your gonna need them. Continue to do this for the next | | two waves of troops and then the pig will send some of his troops for the | | fourth and final wave, this wave is the hardest yet because he has a lot of | | archers, some spearmen and some macemen... along with catapults to take | | down your walls!. The stupid game says the king has sent reinforcement | | archers to aid you but never show up, at least on the very hard level. | | Anyways if you have kept training the archers through the whole time you | | should... I repeat should have just barley enough archers to kill off his | | wave. If you find you can not train enough archers in time you can start | | building poleturner workshops along with the fletcher workshops and when a | | enemy wave comes in send all your spearmen out to help stop the wave, this | | will save a few archers from getting killed by enemy archers. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. The Fat Pig (Oink,Oink) | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 6004 Bread | | | | The Pig is back, bigger than ever, larger than life and he wants your | | food! | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge, Engineers Guild, Oil Smelter | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post, Wheat Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop, | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman, Engineer | | | | Starting Goods - 500 Gold | | - 90 Wood | | 30 Stone | | 15 Pitch | | - 50 Bread | | | | Starting Troops - 4 Archers | | 2 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is also a very tough mission, you need to get food going fast but | | also bow production. Start with wood, build some in the trees and then | | build a few wheat farms behind your keep. A good thing to do here is not to | | raise your population up to high, as dumb as this sounds it will help you | | make your bread goal faster as you don't have as many mouths to feed. Also | | when A fire breaks out and it will you won't have to replace as much on | | training archers for the pigs on coming attacks. Buy some bows to start | | with just to get some fast archers going and then put them on a turret, | | when you do finally get some food going you can raise rations and taxes for | | some gold to come in, once that happens you can build some fletcher | | workshops. When the pig comes and attacks It shouldn't be to hard to kill | | off but it's annoying when his men trash all off your work stations, once | | the wave is dead replace everything he smashed and continue on with more | | and more bow production for more archers. His waves of attacks grow each | | time until about the 6 or 7th wave then it's just a big wave of archers, | | macemen, crossbow men and engineers. Anyways once you start getting some | | good archers build a round or square turret midway between your castle and | | where the pigs men come in, now start putting archers up there along with a | | manganel. When his men come to play use the manganel to kill as many of his | | troops as it can, your archers should get in some good damage and kills as | | well. After and during each wave continue to train archers and stuff them | | in the turret until you get enough up there to pretty much stop his waves | | from getting by, then you can focus on the 6004 bread you need. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. The Rats Revenge | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 100 Ale | | | | Your nemesis the rat, wants another crack at you! Are you scared? | | | | | | Available Buildings - Wood Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense | | Turret, Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden | | Gatehouse, Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone | | Gatehouse, Engineers Guild, Stable | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Iron Mine, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post, Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, | | Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop, | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman, Knight, Engineer | | | | Starting Goods - 500 Gold | | - 96 Wood | | 234 Stone | | 8 Hops | | - 50 Meat | | | | Starting Troops - 3 Archers | | 3 Spearmen | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Get some wood going by placing down some wood cutters, also put down a | | marketplace. Buy about 200 gold in more wood and put down some dairy farms | | in the castle area behind the keep, when some more wood comes in or if you | | have some still make up some fletcher workshops for some bow production. | | Your gonna have to raise the taxes sometime soon for some gold for those | | archers so it's best to do it now for some money and when your popularity | | is 70 or so take them off. When the bows come in train the archers and put | | them in the very bottom turret, by now the rats first wave is coming which | | isn't to difficult but the spearmen like to bust up your wood cutters, just | | replace them once the wave is done. Keep making the bows and expand your | | food resources by filling up the back part of the castle with dairy farms, | | also delete the gatehouse and surrounding wall to the very right of the | | castle, not the gatehouse that's attached to the actual castle but the | | other one in front of the hovel. Now there's space here to lay down some | | dairy farms. | | | | Continue to keep just training archers and replace your stuff that gets | | busted up until you start getting a good amount of archers, now build a | | round or square turret in front of your castle in the trees area so it is | | close to where the rats troops come up... move all but 5 or so archers up | | there. Now build a defense turret maybe over to the right where you | | probably put your wood cutters and toss the remaining archers you have up | | there, also it's good to put at least 5 more up there so theres 10 there... | | this is protect your wood stations if any spearmen get by your other turret | | full of archers. Now build a few wheat farms and hops farms in the green | | area around here, the wheat is to get even more food going since you will | | be just barley getting by on food. Build a mill, some bakeries and some | | breweries to get all the goods going. Now this sucks, around this time | | hopefully you didn't take to long, a fire will break out in your castle and | | light up a lot of stuff especially if it's close together so hopefully you | | have a few hundred gold to spare.. put down quite a few wells in the | | castle, you can always replace the wheat and hops farms if they go up but | | if the main stuff in your castle goes up like your granary and armory then | | it's a hard recovery. Once you prevent the fire just continue to brew the | | ale until you reach your goal. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. The Vipers Nest | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Kill Enemy Lord | | | | The snake has slithered back to the ancient fortress of his ancestors. Do | | you have the skill to traverse the maze of tunnels carved out by his | | forebearers and finish the odious reptile. | | | | | | Available Buildings - None | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 750 Gold | | | | Starting Troops - 24 Archers | | 72 Spearmen | | 69 Macemen | | 16 Engineers | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - The only way to beat this mission on very hard is by taking your time | | which means a long long time to beat it, you have to just use the archer | | shot technique for every enemy in your path. A lot of the time your not | | gonna get a good shot accuracy at your enemy but you just have to wait | | until the odd one lands and wait it out till they die. This is all there is | | to it, once you make it to the castle do the same to the archers on the | | turrets and then bring down a wall to rush the lord. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. The Weak, The Bad, The Fat And The Slippery | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | Four villains, four attacks, four times the trouble. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge, Engineers Guild, Stable, Tunnelers Guild, | | Oil Smelter | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post, Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, | | Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop, | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman, Knight, Engineer | | | | Starting Goods - 1052 Gold | | - 141 Wood | | 68 Stone | | 25 Iron | | 50 Pitch | | - 30 Cheese | | 50 Bread | | 30 Apples | | | | Starting Troops - 68 Archers | | 55 Spearmen | | 2 Macemen | | 16 Crossbow Men | | 11 Pikemen | | 3 Swordsmen | | 6 Knights | | 4 Manganels | | 1 Tower Ballista | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - UPDATE: Ok finally this mission wanted to work for me, there are four | | different attacks one from each villan. What you want to do is to start get | | a decent food operation going quickly with just cheese, after that move all | | of your archers and crossbow men to the very front turret since all the | | attacks will be coming from there. Move all your melee fighters into the | | keep to protect your lord, after you have done this it is best to delete | | all the stone wall and turrets just in the surrounding area of the keep, | | don't delete the outter stone wall. This way you can expand your cheese | | farms and raise the tax and food consumption. | | | | Your archers and crossbow men should be able to kill the rats troops that | | come up to the castle, after the rat falls the snake will be next. Before | | he arrives you have a little time to build more archers and crossbow men, | | if you can afford it crossbow men are obviously better to have here since | | swordsmen and pikemen will be coming with the pig and wolf. Get some iron | | mines going just to sell off the products for more money which in turn you | | can buy more weapons, keep pilling archers and crossbow men in that turret | | and continue to repair the stone wall that gets destroyed after each wave | | and you should be good. One thing you should not do is light up the pitch | | near the turrets until the wolf gets there because he has a boat load of | | pikemen and swordsmen to deal with, also use the pitch you have to lay down | | and burn more troops. Pitch is gonna be the key to winning this mission | | once the wolf arrives, follow this strategy and you should be alright. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 6. Who's Affraid Of The Big Bad Wolf? | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Eliminate All Enemy Units | | | | You should be! In this deadly mission hes coming for you with everything | | he's got! | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge, Engineers Guild, Stable, Tunnelers Guild, | | Oil Smelter | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post, Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, | | Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop, | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman, Knight, Engineer | | | | Starting Goods - 5000 Gold | | - 265 Wood | | 80 Stone | | 20 Iron | | 50 Pitch | | 50 Wheat | | - 40 Cheese | | 35 Bread | | - 10 Bows | | 10 Crossbows | | 25 Swords | | 10 Leather Armor | | 25 Metal Armor | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a pretty tough mission if you aren't a veteran of the game, what | | your gonna need here are crossbow men.. i'm sure it could be done with | | swordsmen but it's more effort to do so. Place your keep near the bottom of | | the map. just right above where the two cliffs come apart, next place 4 or | | 5 granaries out in the middle of the field. Now build lots and I mean lots | | of apple orchards all around the granaries, build a marketplace now and buy | | a lot more wood. Put down some wood cutters, a few dairy farms near the | | stockpile, some quarries with ox tethers and some iron mines for selling | | the iron. Once this is all set down put down a lot of fletcher workshops | | and tanner workshops.. and again I mean a lot. If you need money you can | | sell the apples that are coming in, if you put down a lot of orchards then | | you will have a ridiculous amount of apples coming in so you can sell them | | for some good gold, don't raise rations just sell apples here. Also sell | | off any incoming iron and stone for more gold, once the weapons and armor | | start coming in train all the crossbow men you can and stuff them into the | | keep. Continue to do this and if you find you have extra gold buy some | | crossbows and leather armor for more troops because you are gonna need a | | lot of crossbow men to stop the wave of the wolfs troops coming. If you | | follow this strategy right you will win every time, you only have to worry | | about stopping the first wave early... the second wave has some more troops | | then the first but it gives you a longer period to train more crossbow men | | so it's easy. I can't stress enough about the apple orchards here, as sad | | as it sounds they are the key to victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Playing A Multiplayer Game ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There isn't a whole lot to this section, i'm just gonna explain how to get into a internet game and the different ways to do it. There are two ways that I know how to get onto the net and play a internet game, one is through the game... you can connect to someone's IP address to join their game or you can start your own and have other people join your game. The second way and easiest way to play a internet game is through gamespy, simply open gamespy up, sign in, and click on the side list where stronghold is. There will be a list of games to choose from to join, also you can create your own game as well. Internet games are just skirmishes between however many players there are in the game you joined between 1-4. A skirmish is fun to play and can make you a better player all round. ******************************************************************************* B. - Economic Based Games ******************************************************************************* Economic based games deal with gathering goods for the most part, some can be just as challenging as the military campaign. If you want to get away from the violence for a bit these missions are fun to play and might even help you out by familiarizing your way around goods if you play the military campaign again or if you play these ones first. ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Playing the Economic Campaign ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the economic campaign and the strategies I will offer to help you get past each mission, these missions can be just as challenging as the military campaign so do now take them lightly. O=============================================================================O | 1. Victory Feast | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 200 Cheese | | Acquire Goods : 24 Ale | | | | The royal court is soon to host a great banquet. We need you to find a | | small village for the production of ale and cheese. Find a clearing in the | | woods to the south of the kings castle and get to work immediately. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Stockpile, Wood Cutter | | - Hunters Post, Dairy Farm, Hops Farm, Wheat farm | | - Hovel | | - Granary, Brewery, Bakery, Mill | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 191 Wood | | - 40 Bread | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This mission isn't to difficult, start by placing some wood cutters into | | the woods near the top of the map... this will clear out some of the trees | | so you can place down more dairy farms. Now build 4 or 5 hop farms and a | | couple of breweries near the stockpile, next use the rest of your wood to | | put down dairy farms, when more wood comes in just continue to build dairy | | farms where ever you can find space. About 35% through this mission your | | hops farms will die off and continue to do so for quite awhile but don't | | worry it will go away after awhile and you can continue to make the ale. | | Also plague will come twice and lower your popularity, if you can afford it | | raise to extra rations until it passes.. this will slow down your | | popularity descent. Just keep working like this and you will achieve your | | goal before you run out of time. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. The Long Valley | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 24 Bows | | Acquire Goods : 16 Swords | | | | The kings armory is depleted. Go to the valley to the east of the castle | | and begin weapons production. The fertile valley floor is ideal for apple | | growing which you can use to feed your people. A local trader here trades | | in iron, which you can buy to produce some of the weapons needed. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Wood Barracks, Armory, Small Wooden Gatehouse | | - Stockpile, Wood cutter, Marketplace | | - Apple Orchard, Hops Farm | | - Hovel | | - Fletchers Workshop, Blacksmiths Workshop | | - Granary, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer | | | | Starting Goods - 40 Gold | | - 50 Wood | | - 30 Apples | | | | Starting Troops - None (but 3 archers and 1 monk will join) | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Place your keep near the middle of the map, where the stream parts 3 | | different ways. Now place your granary over to the right of the screen, | | build some wood cutters near the top where the trees are and now build some | | apple orchards near your granary. There are bears near where you put your | | wood cutters so it might be awhile before you get some wood going because | | your lumberjacks will be fighting with them for a bit, but this is okay. | | When some wood does come in put down a marketplace and a armory, also fill | | up the right side of the screen with apple orchards. Hike the tax up and | | raise to extra rations, while this is going on 3 archers and a monk will | | join your force, unfortunately now at this time a group of bandits will | | attack your people and go for your apple orchards and granary. Your going | | to need to use your lord to go kill them, after this put down 2 or so | | fletcher workshops.. and when you can afford it buy some iron and put down | | a blacksmith workshop. For future reference you might want to train 4 or 5 | | more archers because more bandits will come to destroy your stuff and also | | more wolves will come. So while this is going to happen continue to expand | | your weapons production, you shouldn't have to much trouble with this | | mission just stick to this strategy and you will win with relative ease. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. Gathering The Harvest | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Achieve Population : 200 | | Acquire Gold : 6400 | | | | We now need to establish a small town to provide grain for the castle. The | | plains to the west of the castle should prove an ideal location. To there | | and get the town up and running. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Wood Barracks, Armory | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, | | Marketplace | | - Wheat Farm, Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearmen | | | | Starting Goods - 50 Gold | | - 90 Wood | | 10 Wheat | | - 40 Apples | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This can be a bit of a tough mission if you underestimate it, although | | there is no bandit raids or fires it is still challenging. The only thing | | that happens is a few plagues and your wheat dies off for awhile, other | | than that it's a straight gather mission. Place your keep near the top of | | the map, next put 2 granaries behind your keep. Now put some wood cutters | | down and a few wheat farms, when wood comes in build a few more wheat farms | | and then a mill or two and some bakeries. Just continue to expand your food | | productivity bigger and bigger to get your population to 200, you will want | | to get a few archers so put down a fletcher workshop. Why do you need | | archers? Because rabbits breed and they will eat your wheat farms if you do | | nothing to stop them so have the archers kill them off. Like I said just | | continue to expand your wheat and food productivity until you get your 200 | | population, obviously you will need to raise rations to double rations and | | hike your tax up to 8 to get the necessary gold you require. When plague | | hits lower your taxes to 2 so people won't leave your castle, if you have | | enough wheat farms going you can sell off some of the wheat, but remember | | when your wheat farms die off for that while you can start running out of | | food quick with such a large operation. Just be cautious about this mission | | and keep the production large and you will win. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. A Deterrent | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 700 Bread | | Acquire Goods : 360 Stone | | Acquire Goods : 80 Maces | | Acquire Goods : 80 Leather Armor | | Complete Castle | | | | Our scouts have spotted raiders to the north. We have started building a | | castle into the mountain pass north of here. Take charge of the | | construction and finish the castle to block their approach. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Stone Gatehouse, | | Large Stone Gatehouse | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine | | - Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop, | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman | | | | Starting Goods - 1500 Gold | | - 99 Wood | | 23 Stone | | - 30 Cheese | | 30 Bread | | - 5 Bows | | 5 Maces | | 5 Leather Armor | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a tough mission, if it's not bandits attacking it's a fire | | burning up all your stuff! You need lots of wood to start off with so get a | | good number of wood cutters going, next put down some wheat farms in the | | green grass below. When some wood comes in build a mill and some bakeries, | | when you build your bakeries it is pretty essential to build them in wider | | rows and fit in wells into those row.. trust me your gonna need a good | | number of wells to. The bandit raids are easy enough it's just a downer to | | your people and will lower your popularity, when you get some more wood | | coming in build 2 more granaries to hold all the bread you need. You will | | probably get your first taste of fire breaking out now, if you don't have | | many wells then it's impossible to recover if it hits your bakery area or | | wheat farm area. When you get it all settled down and have some more wood | | you need to start on your stone and iron so get some quarries with ox | | tethers going and some iron mines. After that build a dairy farm or two and | | some tanners workshops, also put down some blacksmith workshops to get the | | maces going, don't forget to switch them to maces. Now you just have to | | worry about the fires breaking out basically, if you can contain them fine | | your gonna get through this fine. Just keep expanding growth of food, stone | | and your weapons to beat this mission after you have a good set up.. but | | again when you expand you must build more wells to cover your arse! | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. A Castle In The Marsh | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 10000 | | | | Finally, we need to replenish the castle treasury. We have a contract to | | supply pitch to a foreign buyer. Go to the old castle in the marsh and | | expand pitch production. A cruel master has ruled the people there. It is | | up to you whether you continue his policies or adopt a kinder approach. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Church, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 100 Gold | | - 143 Wood | | 20 Stone | | 3 Pitch | | - 50 Bread | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Speed is the key to winning here, it's likely it will come down to the | | wire when and if you win. Start by demolishing all off the cruel torture | | devices around the map. Your gonna need to get a lot of wood fast so build | | a lot of wood cutters to the north and anywhere else there is trees. Now | | surround your castle with apple orchards anywhere you can fit one, build a | | marketplace and buy all the wood you can with the gold you have. Start | | putting down pitch rigs now... as many as you can with the wood you have, | | also putting down a couple of apothecaries when you have more money, it is | | a good idea because plague will come quite a few times. Also putting down 2 | | or 3 chapels can be a good idea as well because religion will raise the | | peasants happiness, when you have these set in place you can raise the tax | | up, also set your food rations to extra... it will start off at double | | rations to you will have to change it. Now just build pitch rigs when more | | wood comes in and buy some extra wood as well to get a lot of pitch rigs | | going, keep selling all the pitch that comes in and buy more wood until you | | get a good setup of pitch rigs. It's likely you will achieve 10000 gold | | with a little time to spare to beat this mission. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Playing A Economic Mission ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Playing a economic mission is pretty much exactly like playing the economic campaign, it's just extra missions. O=============================================================================O | 1. A Request From The King | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 16 Swords | | Acquire Goods : 16 Bows | | | | In readiness for his forthcoming crusade, the king has ordered that the | | royal army be restocked. Forth with, your fiefdom is to supply his majesty | | steward with a quantity of weapons. You are to have the shipment of weapons | | ready for dispatch before the king and his army set forth. A local trader | | here sells iron, which you can buy to produce some of the weapons needed. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Armory | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Marketplace | | - Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard | | - Hovel | | - Fletchers Workshop, Blacksmiths Workshop | | - Granary | | | | Available Troops - Archer | | | | Starting Goods - 700 Gold | | - 60 Wood | | - 30 Apples | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - Every time I beat this mission I do it with about 10 seconds to spare | | from the time remaining left, anyways build a lot of wood cutters off the | | start because your gonna need a lot and you can't buy any. Now build apple | | orchards where you can in the green grass, now start production of your | | bows and swords by building at least one of each. Now buy 5 iron and build | | as many cheese farms as you can fit near your keep, when some food comes in | | raise taxes and raise food rations. Your going to need to sell your apples | | as they come in, don't worry though your cheese will be able to support | | your people. When you can, put down 2 more fletcher workshops for a total | | of 3 and 2 more blacksmith workshops for a total of three. Now when you get | | enough money buy iron so your blacksmiths can make the swords you need. If | | you follow this strategy you will just barley pull out a victory. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 2. Blessing The Peasants | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Achieve Population : 200 | | Blessed % : 90 | | Fear Factor - Pleasant : 3 | | | | To confirm your status as the most pious of the kings lords you need to | | ensure that every single one of your serfs attends church. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Chrurch, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Blacksmiths Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - None | | | | Starting Goods - 95 Wood | | 10 Stone | | - 65 Meat | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - You don't really need a strategy for this mission, you have unlimited | | time to complete it, the only piece of advice I will give is fires do break | | out so your going to need wells or you will burn! | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 3. The Emerging City | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Achieve Population : 600 | | Acquire Gold : 20000 | | Blessed % : 30 | | Drinking Ale % : 80 | | Fear Factor - Pleasant : 5 | | | | You have a long time span to turn your village into the greatest economy in | | the land. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, | | Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Chrurch, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman | | | | Starting Goods - 50 Wood | | - 59 Meat | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - You don't really need a strategy for this mission, you have unlimited | | time to complete it, a piece of advice I will give is fires do break out, | | theives steal some and sometimes all of your food, bandits will come by | | from time to time and as well as some wolves will visit. The only big thing | | is to control the fires, now im not expecting you to have a million wells | | placed all over but try to seperate your food production and granary from | | one another and then seperate other things you build as well, this way when | | a fire breaks out only a section of one thing will flame up, when this | | happens just delete as much as you can when it's on fire to get some of | | materials back. After that re-build what you lost and continue forward. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 4. The Forest | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Acquire Goods : 40 Bows | | Acquire Goods : 40 Crossbows | | Acquire Goods : 40 Spears | | Acquire Goods : 40 Pikes | | | | This ancient forest is dying. The king needs yet more weapons. You have a | | limited time in which to deliver them. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Wood Barracks, Armory, Small Wooden Gatehouse | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Marketplace | | - Apple Orchard, Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop | | - Granary, Brewery | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman | | | | Starting Goods - 60 Wood | | - 85 Meat | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is a very hard mission, you need to be fast and efficent with where | | you place your buildings. Start by building lots of wood cutters for wood | | and to bring down the trees for apple orchards, once you can get some apple | | orchards going raise taxes and rations to extra. Sell off the wood as it | | comes in and expand your wood operation even more, now start production of | | the weapons you need... but be warned a fire will probably break out soon | | so wells are a must. Delete the wood cutters that you start out with | | because most likely they will have cleared the trees around them so build | | more wood cutters further out, if you can build fast enough you will avoid | | another fire which happens near the end of your time limit. This mission is | | for veterans of the game only, even I had some trouble with this mission so | | you know it's really tough! But if you stick with this strategy and are | | fast and effective enough you will beat it. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O O=============================================================================O | 5. The Tyrant | O=============================================================================O | | | Objectives : Achieve Population : 150 | | Fear Factor - Cruel : 5 | | | | Maintain a maximum fear factor for the given duration to prove that you are | | the cruelest master in the land. | | | | | | Available Buildings - Barracks, Armory, Perimeter Turret, Defense Turret, | | Square Turret, Round Turret, Small Wooden Gatehouse, | | Small Stone Gatehouse, Large Stone Gatehouse, | | Drawbridge | | - Stockpile, Wood Cutter, Quarry, Ox Tether, Iron Mine, | | Pitch Rig, Marketplace | | - Hunters Post Dairy Farm, Apple Orchard, Wheat Farm, | | Hops Farm | | - Hovel, Chapel, Chrurch, Cathedral, Apothecary, Well | | - Fletchers Workshop, Poleturners Workshop | | Blacksmiths Workshop, Tanners Workshop, Armorers | | Workshop | | - Granary, Bakery, Mill, Brewery, Inn | | | | Available Troops - Archer, Spearman, Maceman, Crossbow Man, Pikeman, | | Swordsman, Knight, Engineer, Tunneler | | | | Starting Goods - 315 Gold | | - 105 Wood | | 2 Iron | | 8 Pitch | | 17 Wheat | | 5 Ale | | - 33 Cheese | | | | Starting Troops - None | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | Strategy | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O | | | - This is one annoying mission, everything bad that can happen will happen | | and does happen often... wolves attack, bears attack, rabbits eat your | | crops, plague, and fires do break out. Put your keep down near the middle | | of the map where there is a cliff and a sandy spot right close by, now put | | down some wood cutters. Put some apple orchards down above your keep and | | some wheat farms below your keep. Put down a armory and build a barracks, | | you will likely need to buy some stone so do it. Now buy 5 bows and train | | the archers and toss them on your keep, have them kill the wolves, bears | | and rabbits that come near the keep. Raise taxes and raise rations to | | extra, when you get some gold put down wells and a apothecary. Again when | | you get some more gold buy some more stone and build a defense or square | | tower right below your keep, you may need to demolish a wheat farm to put | | it down... move your archers onto the turret, this will protect your | | archers from dying from the plague as the plague will hit on top of the | | keep. As I said a lot of bad things happen but a lot of traveling fairs do | | happen to bring up the peoples happiness. Keep expanding your food | | production to get the population up to 150 as you need, once the population | | is up just lay down a crap load of torture devices to raise cruelty and you | | will win. | | | O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O ******************************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. If you get good at using it you can make amazing maps and missions to play. 1. Loading A Working Map This option let's you load a previous map you started and you can continue to work on it when it has been loaded. 2. New Stand-Alone Map When you select this option you will have started to create a new map and what type of map it will be, once you click on the stand-alone you will have 4 different size options for the map you wish to create. After selecting your size 4 more options will pop up and you will choose the type of map you want it to be, you can create a siege map, invasion map, economic map and a landscape map. Each option will tell you what you can do with the map if you place your cursor over the option. Once you choose what size and type of map you want you can edit the name of your map, edit the events that will happen with the map... whether it be an invasion of bandits to a fire breaking out, lastly you can choose the "To Map" option which will let you edit the map itself. 3. New 'Seige That' Map This option is unique in that fact you have a pre-made map already or you can load a map you made earlier, you must build the best castle you can with the resources given to you. When you save the map or click 'Lock Map' the map will go into the "Playing A Siege" map list and you can play it, also your castle will get a score on how well it held up. The better your castle the better your score, challenge yourself to make a better castle each time!. 4. New Multiplayer Map This option will let you create a simple map with no missions or invasions, it's almost like a free build except this map can be used to play online with your friends. ******************************************************************************* D. - Loading A Saved Game ******************************************************************************* When you save your game whether it be in the military campaign or any other part of the game you can load it back from where you saved with this option. ******************************************************************************* II. In-Depth Game Information ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* * 1. - Troop Information * ******************************************************************************* =============================================================================== Archer =============================================================================== Weapon : Bow Armor : None Material Cost : 12 Gold, 1 Bow, Barracks Archer's are best at killing other archer's and spearmen, their bows are not very effective against armored troops especially metal armored troops. Archer's are quick on their feet but have a very weak melee attack if encountered. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Crossbow Man =============================================================================== Weapon : Crossbow Armor : Leather Armor Material Cost : 20 Gold, 1 Crossbow, 1 Leather Armor, Barracks Crossbow men are extremely effective against all enemies, their crossbows penetrate all types of armored troops and instantly kill unarmored enemies. Crossbow men have poor movement to them as they are the second slowest in movement although if they do get in a melee confrontation they can handle their own and are even more powerful then a spearman one on one. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Spear Man =============================================================================== Weapon : Spear Armor : None Material Cost : 8 Gold, 1 Spear, Barracks Spearmen are the common troop that is cheap and expendable, they are only formidable in large groups otherwise they are an easy kill. Spear men are good for rushing archer's in a turret or rushing a keep to kill the lord if in a group, spear men are quick on their feet which is another benefit to them. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Mace Man =============================================================================== Weapon : Mace Armor : Leather Armor Material Cost : 20 Gold, 1 Mace, 1 Leather Armor, Barracks Macemen have the second most powerful melee attack and are quick on their feet but at the cost of their armor. Macemen will walk right through any archer, crossbow man or any spearman, even pikemen will fall one on one with a macemen so you can see how effective macemen actually are. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Pike Man =============================================================================== Weapon : Pike Armor : Metal Armor Material Cost : 20 Gold, 1 Pike, 1 Metal Armor, Barracks Pikemen are heavy armored troops who lack in the offensive attack, they are faster than swordsman for both having metal armor though. The hassle and cost to creating a pike man in my opinion is not worth it unless you are raiding a castle with only archer's defending then I would actually recommend pikemen for their speed and defense, for any other combat situation I would advise otherwise. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Swords Man =============================================================================== Weapon : Sword Armor : Metal Armor Material Cost : 40 Gold, 1 Sword, 1 Metal Armor, Barracks Swordsmen are the superior troop for melee combat, they have the strongest offensive attack and the strongest defense. Where the swordsmen fault is their movement, they are super slow and make easy targets for crossbow men to pick off. Against any melee attacker they will mop the floor with them and are also almost immune to a archer's arrow, however, unless the situation calls for one of these situations it's best to stick with a quicker troop. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Knight =============================================================================== Weapon : Sword Armor : Metal Armor Material Cost : 40 Gold, 1 Sword, 1 Metal Armor, 1 Horse, Barracks Knights have it all, offensive strength, defense and speed. The only drawback to them is their material cost, they also require a horse which in turn requires a stable. I would say knights should be only used for a defensive troop, send them out to attack archer's, crossbow men, and spearmen when they come to invade your castle, sending them against any other troop would just be to cost effective. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Engineer =============================================================================== Weapon : None Armor : None Material Cost : 30 Gold, Engineers Guild Engineers have a few good uses, they can build and operate siege weapons which can be useful in taking a castle down or helping to defend your castle using a tower mounted weapon, they also can use boiling pitch to pour on enemies which is extremely effective. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Ladder Man =============================================================================== Weapon : None Armor : None Material Cost : 4 Gold, Engineers Guild Ladder Men have only one use, they run to a castle wall and deploy their ladder so you may scale the wall rather then bust it down. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Tunneler =============================================================================== Weapon : None Armor : None Material Cost : 30 Gold, Tunneler's Guild Tunneler's can be useful in taking down a castle's gatehouse, turrets or the walls themselves, just point them in a direction to dig and away they go. =============================================================================== ******************************************************************************* III. My Game Review ******************************************************************************* Gameplay 7.5/10: The gameplay is much like the classic Command and Conquer games, the point and select troops and point to an enemy and click to kill, but this is the type of game it works for. There are alot of differernt types of missions to play so the game mixes it up a bit. Graphics 8/10: I may have over rated the graphics a bit but I like them, the scenery is great. The whole medieval times look is what's great about this game, alot of detail is put into this game, how the people work and the fighting is awesome. Music ??/10: There isn't really any music to the game so i'll leave this one alone. Overall 8/10: A great strategy game overall, I have beat this game tons of times and I keep coming back to play it at a later time, that's how you can tell if a games good or not... if you come back to it. If you are into strategy games you have to play it and you have to love it, if you don't then you don't know strategy games!. ******************************************************************************* IV.
