I do not intend on rehashing the manual so you should refer to it if you are unsure of controls etc. This guide has been written by me after some long painstaking effort so please do not rip my walkthrough off. Finally it will contain SPOILERS so only read if you are really stuck. I may work on revising the layout once I have the walkthrough complete. I hope the maps also prove useful. ================================================================================ { } { 02 - General Notes } { } ================================================================================ * Unlike the previous versions of the game your torch will never run out. * To tread water just hold the jump button (space bar) * There is 1 hidden artefact on each level (9 in total). When it breaks the blocks use the pieces in the north east of the room to climb up to the broken ladder. Climb up to the top and read Eloffs second notebook. Look at the symbols on the wall and move the three levels of the monolith to match the pattern. If you do this correctly a green laser will appear back to the door in the main room. Drop down and grab each of the broken pieces and carry them into the southern room. Move the block of stone to the scaffolding. Then use the smaller broken pieces to make steps to allow you to climb on top of it. You should be able to jump up and land on the scaffolding rail then get the statue on top of the scaffolding. You need to move 2 of the stone blocks into the room on the west and drop them over the ledge. Put the remaining stone in the east room onto one of the pressure plates in the room with the door. You can then grab the broken stone and put that on the other. This will activate the bridge to the west and open the main door. Go across and grab the glowing orb (these orbs activate the exit portals). Go back to the main room and through the door. Go through and use the portal at the end. ================================================================================ Level 2 - Residential ================================================================================ There are two ways to go here to get the artefact you'll need to go the upper route. You can drop to the lower path to grab the painkillers then use the box and one of the beams to climb back up. Pick up the metal beam and move it over the left hand side of the screen and it should click into place to form a walkway. Go back into the room and grab the other metal beam. Cary it across the first beam and slot it into place to form a second walkway. You can now get to the other side. Open the door and go through it. The next room has a crate in and will start to slowly fill with water. Find the hidden door in the corners of the room and get the crates. The crates need to aligned with the switches on the roof. If you line them up right then the room will empty and you can go to the next room. You can use the jump button to tread water. This is the upper floor of the corresponding lower level. Follow the walk way to the door and go into the room. Grab 3 crates and use them to make steps up to a vent in the wall. Jump up into the vent and into a new room. Grab the artefact from on top of the monitors. Use the PC. Use the "laser security.exe" program to deactivate the lasers. Read the "to do" file. Move everything off the desk and access the PC again. You can now run a new program "RecordStudio.exe" that is password protected. The password is: "ikj765" (you need to find all artefacts to get the password) Exit the room and drop down to the room below. Follow the walkthrough for the lower level from paragraph 3. You need to grab and move the metal box to the door at the far end. You need to do this whilst ignoring the green light. If you cross the green light. If you cross the light it will release poisonous gas. When you have the box by the door go back to the alcove. Press the button and run to the door at the far end, again avoiding the light. Push the box into the next room. Move the box over the button on the floor to open the door into the next room. You'll hear a recording from the cassette player in this room. Go to the soda machine and use it and a tape will pop out. Pick it up and carry it to the cassette player. The tape should insert itself. Use the cassette player to listen to the tape if you want. Its a message from Dr Eminiss. Go to the door where the soda machine was and open it. Inside the next room are several lasers. You need to push one of the crates in the corner of the room through the lasers and onto the pressure plate in the corner of the tunnel beyond. You need to avoid the lasers yourself. When you place the crate on the pressure plate the door will open at the far end of the hallway. Go through the door and use the walkie talkie. You'll hear from Dr Eminiss. Follow the hallway west up the stairs and into the new room at the top. You need to use the moving crates to get to the glowing orb. Jump on the first one running east west. Get onto the next one running north south. When it reaches its northern most point jump onto the lift up. Jump onto the crate to the south running east west. Jump onto the crate in the east running north south. Get off the crate, use the ladder and pick up the orb to unlock the exit. Climb back up the ladder and jump on the crate running north south. At its northern point jump onto the crate running east west. Jump off that onto the next crate and then onto the walkway by the door. Grab the key with the crate and throw it to ledge on the north wall. Grab one crate and place it over the three strange devices on the floor. You need to use the control panel on the left to set the heights of the crates. Move the level to the far left and press the button on the far left. Move the level to the middle and press the button in the middle. Move the lever to the far right and press the button on the right. Now grab any of the other crates and put it near the first crate then use them as stepping stones to get to the ladder. Climb up the next ladder to level 1. Grab the crate with the key on you threw up and throw it into the blue lasers. It will disappear. Climb up to the next level. Hold it with the left mouse button then aim at the chain holding the raised platform. Press right mouse button to throw the ketchup. if you do it right the bridge will fall down and you can cross to the other side of the room. Use some more ketchup to destroy the crate with a key on and pick up the strange globe it drops. Flick the switch and wait for the big crate to move down. While this is happening use the crates to climb up onto the ledge in the north west corner (you'll need two). When you are on the walkway above jump on to of the big crate. Grab ketchup bottle and throw it at the switch and the crate will rise. Jump off at the next level. Then get the strange statue from both sets of desk drawers. Then get the strange globe from the desk. Grab the metal step in the corner and drop it over the edge, this will transport to level 3 (if this doesn't work then just carry it up with you). Go to the ledge on the east side of the crate. Jump on the ledge and face the crate. Open the crate and climb inside. Go across the crate and jump on the ledge on the west wall. Jump onto the top of the big crate then onto the ledge on the south wall. Use the pipe to climb up to the level 3. They should click into place. Pull the first 2 steps out and climb up them. Then pull the other steps out as you climb. At the top read the note on the floor. Go to the far end and jump up onto the ladder then climb up. Walk on to the moving platform. When it gets to the next platform walk on to that. Use the ladder at the end and climb to the next platform. Walk on to the next moving platform and the one that meets in the middle. Go into the room and grab one of the four crates on the northern wall. Carry this around the walkway to the west side and drop it in the middle of the water. Use it to jump across to the walkway opposite. Use the switch on the wall to activate two barriers. these can then be used to cross the walkways in the east and south. You then need to move some more crates in place to be able to get to the next switch on the north wall. When you have activated this switch you can now navigate the walkways without the need of crates now. Your next task is to acquire the battery so use the valve on the north west wall. This will cause a small explosion in the sewer tunnel to the east. Jump in and grab the strange globe before swimming east. Ignore the battery for now and climb the ladder. use the switch to turn on the flow control. Jump back in the water and get the battery then swim back to the control room. Throw the battery out the water then use the ladder to climb out. Put the battery in the slot next to the switch then use the switch. We're going to get the artefact now. Run back to the starting room and wait for the water to rise. The artefact is on the pip in the north east corner. You then need to swim to the circular room quickly. You can do this before drowning. The water will take you up to the ladder on the east. When the water stops rising drop into the water and activate the switch on the south wall. Swim up to the surface and climb out the water. Use the platforms that raise on the north side quickly because they drop after a short time. Follow the walkway around to get the final globe. Use the switch to change the power to the door. Go back up the tunnel and right into the store room. Grab the strange globe from the south east corner of the room. Grab the pipe from the shelf and then head west to the room under the radar dish. Pull the three contacts for the generator. The first won't go all the way so use the pipe on it. When all three connections are in place press the switch. Then pull the lever. The fuse will explode and needs to be replaced. Now head to the ladder near the door. Climb on the roof and follow the map around to the south west corner to find the artefact. Go back to the doorway next to the ladder and go inside. Use them to climb up the smallest of the three. jump across the cabinets and then the fence. Grab the painkillers and read the note. use the switch on the wall to unlock the door in the fence. Grab the battery and go into the hut in the east of the hanger. Put the battery in the space by the wall to start up the power. User the device on the desk to stop the annoying message. Go and get the fuse from the rack on the west of the fence and take it to the radar room. Put it in the fuse box then restart the generator and pull the lever again. Head back inside and use the PC. Select the "satellite dish.exe" program. Choose the calibrate signal option from the combo box and click the execute button. Then run the statistics option to check the functionality. Finally choose the send message option. Take this to the radar room and drop it on the lethal machine to break it. Get the strange orb that's inside. Go back to the hanger and use two small boxes to block the doorway. Then go back to the machine in the south tunnel. Select the switch for the hatch and return to the hanger. Push the ball south then along the tunnel to the 4 lasers. You have to use the left side and roll it up the wall into the middle, forward, then up the wall and out the other side to get it through. Push the ball up the ramp through the hole in the wall. Go back along tunnel and down the platform to a circular room. Go inside room and through the door at the back. Jump over the 3 platforms that are raising and lowering. Head north east and use the platforms that come in and out of the walls to cross to the walkway. Take the strange globe then return back the way you came. Take the walkway leading west to the end. Go up the first ladder and along the walkway above. When you get to the ball trapped by the grate drop off to the right. Flick the switch to open the grate. Use the ladder and drop down below. Use the lever in the room. Now head back west along the walkway, ignore the second ladder for the moment and jump over the broken walkway. Use the switch then jump back over. Go and climb up the second ladder. You will be in a small room with a panel and three switches. Operate them left to right to allow the ball through. Exit and go back down the ladder. Head back across the three raising and lowering platforms and use the switch. Go back to the first ladder on the western walkway and follow the path up. Drop down on the bar running back to the central circular room. Follow it north to the outside of the central circular room. Climb up the metal ledges. Jump onto the pipe and head counter clockwise. You should spot some more metal ledges you can climb up, climb them to a metal girder. Lower Room ---------- # # ____ #/ M / E / | TT | | TT A | | / / _M_/ Key --- A - Artefact E - Electro Ball M - Metal Sheet T - Electric Tube Follow the chute up to where the ball first appeared and you'll find the next strange globe. Pick it up and follow the chute to the bottom. Before climbing in jump on the wall and walk around to the east side. Grab the artefact. Climb down the ladder into the small room with the electrical ball. Use one of the metal sheets as a ramp and push the ball into the centre. It will destroy the tubes leaving a strange globe. Pick it up. You now have 5 minutes to exit the level. Turn around and head south to the ladder down. Drop the cog and climb down the ladder. Jump off the ladder onto the pipe to the south and then get onto the roof of the structure. The artefact is in the far western corner. Get the three cogs and put them in the slots on the western walkway. The cog from the upper walkway goes in the left slot. The small cog goes into the middle slot and the big cog in the right slot. Press the button and an electroball will appear from the tube. Push it along the tunnel and through the hole. Go down the ladder to the lower lever. Go through each crusher one at a time. when you get to the final crusher go south down the vent into a secret room. Turn the valve to stop the steam in the level above. Grab the lever off the shelf. Exit back north along the vent, avoid the crusher and go east into a room. Move the box blocking the door and open it. Take both levers and insert them into the control panel. Operate the controls as follows to get the ball to the end and unlock the lasers around the exit: > left Down > Right Down > Left Up > Right Up > Left Up > Left Down > Right Up > Left Down > Right Down > Left Down Head back up the ladder and follow the walkway around to where the steam used to be. Press the switch to activate the columns then jump on the first column. Go east until you see columns going north. Go north and you'll come to a platform with a strange globe and some painkillers. Get both and backtrack. Instead of going back west go east across the columns until you reach a new walkway. The next section is a donkey kong parody. Climb up the ladders and avoid the barrels. At the top there is a platform with a strange globe and some painkillers. Grab both and return back to the main section. Follow the tunnel north, west, south, west and north to the room with 2 crates. Use the ramp to get one crate on top of the other. Slowly move the crates to the south and get the top crate back in the tunnels. Push it east, south, west and south to the room with 3 pressures plates. Put this on any plate. Go north and get the crate in the western alcove and put that on one of the pressure plates. Stand on the remaining plate and you'll trigger an explosion in the shed to the east. Go east and open the hatch inside. You'll pick up a strange globe. Grab a piece of wood and head back to the room where the two crates were. Open the hatch in the corner and climb down. Open the grate and put a log in. Use the switch to ignite the boiler. Use the valve marked 2 valves to release the steam. Go back to the start and take the steam lift up. Head West and jump over the hole in the ground. In the room at the end is a keypad. Enter the code (6497) the voice on the recording indicates into the keypad. Open the locked cupboard and take the chemical. Take the chemical and drop it in the maintenance hatch at the intersection of the T-Junction. Go take the ladder down to the floor below. Move the crate to the inactive lift. Open the gate and head back to the boiler. Switch off Valve 2 and switch on valves 1 and 3. Go back to the ladder push the crate onto the now active lift. At the top push the crate along to one of the pressure plates. Get the chemical inside the box and drop that into the maintenance hatch. Go up the ramp up and get on another steam lift. Follow the hall and carefully jump across the moving platforms to the portal at the end. Remove the vent cover in the next room. Crawl along the vent until it collapses. Use the crates to avoid being electrocuted. You can grab the strange globe in the corner of the room and get out before being electrocuted if you're careful. Head west up the stairs into the room. Open the fuse box on the wall and remove the fuse from the left slot to the middle slot. This will restore power to the room. Search the desk for some painkillers. Pull off the vent cover on the south wall (behind some shelves). Before leaving change the fuse again to the slot on the right. Head south into the vent. Follow the vent to a new tunnel, you'll spot that the power is on here now. Press the button by the door and it'll open into the room you started in. You can use the boxes to make a safe passage over the water. Get over the water. Head right into the room at the end of the tunnel. You next aim is to reroute power to the room at the far end of the hallway. Enter the room and grab one of 6 circuit boards from the south side of the room. You need to insert them into the equipment at the north side of the room. You know if you have a correct slot because it lights up red. The path is shown in the hashes below: X X X X # # X X X # X X X # # # Jump up on the desk and get the artefact off top of the tank. Pull the vent off the south wall and follow the vent to the locked room to the west. Unblock the door and exit. Head west to the room at the end. Find a power lead on the floor and plug it into the plugs in the corner of each room. Press the button to start up the slow moving transports. Head back to the intersection, get the nitro from the store room then go north. Get onto the first transport then jump onto the second. Wait for it to go to the west side of the room and jump onto the ledge with the strange globe. get the strange globe then jump back onto the transport. Jump off the transport by the north door. Go to the bottom of the stairs and then north in the tunnel below. At the end place the nitro and it will click into place by the rock fall. Go back into the room with the stairs and grab the rope. Go back to the tunnel and place one end in the nitro and the other in the oil. Flip the switch and get to the south end of the tunnel. When the explosion has finished go north. Follow the tunnel down and then go left. Open the door and open the cupboard. The final strange globe is here, take it and exit the room. Go east and south to find the portal. You will arrive at Red's furname from the very first game and he'll talk to you for a while. When he finishes talking you have two ways to complete the game: 1) Hit the switch on the furnace You'll see some flames and some agonising screams. You'll then see your body on the floor of a room before the credits roll. 2) Just exit the room through the door. You'll appear briefly back on the boat from the start of Penumbra overture.
