Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Jeroen Amin (Invisible Assassin) v.1.0 ***** Intro ***** This is simply a guide to get through the game. Due to the nature of the game, which consists mainly of free exploration, this guide is made following each objective in the game and how to get there from the previous one, as well as all the spells and minigames. The information in this guide provides everything you will need to beat the game and then some. If you should ever become lost, consult Nearly Headless Nick to find out where to go. If you need help going to a specific point, use the Where to? feature in the pause screen. ****** Spells ****** Wigardium Leviosa ----------------- Motion: side to side Effect: Lifts an object Get it: at the beginning of the game Disrupto -------- Motion: tap up Effect: Draws minicrests from objects around the game Get it: while with Luna Indendio -------- Motion: up, down, up, down Effect: Lights things on fire Get it: when you meet Luna at the Boathouse Stupefy ------- Motion: tap up Effect: Shoots a projectile Get it: when you first duel Expelliarmus ------------ Motion: move left, tap right Effect: Knocks enemy over Get it: when you first duel Protego ------- Motion: tap down Effect: Casts a barrier around yourself that protects from all spells Get it: when you face Hufflepuff's DC captain Petrificus Totalus ------------------ Motion: up, down, up, down Effect: Freezes the enemy in place, letting you attack them Get it: when you go to the Slytherin DC Levicorpus ---------- Motion: move down and tap down Effect: Raises enemy in the air leaving them open to attack Get it: when you face Ravenclaw's DC captain Charge ------ Motion: hold down Effect: Charges a spell to increase its power Get it: when you face Hufflepuff's DC ********* Minigames ********* Flying ------ This is not difficult, you jut fly through the markers. In Quidditch Practice, there are dummies for you to hit. Flying into them gives you more time, lest the markers turn yellow, then red, then black and disappear, causing you to lose. Don't worry if you seem to be running out of time, I do not think there is any way to raise the speed at which you fly. Your main goal is to hit every marker, but missing a few are permissable. Scoring is based on how many markers you get. Potions ------- Follow the icons onscreen to create a potion. The first icon is the bottle. Each one has a unique shape which you should be able to quickly identify from what you have at hand. Sometimes you will see a shaking icon. Tap up and down quickly to shake the potion until it is continually bubbling. Now, pour it in until it reaches the desired colour. You will have to stop JUST BEFORE it reaches that hue or else you will end up oversaturating the potion. You will get a Great if you hear alarms and bells and whistles. Sometimes, you will see a fire icon. Just tap up and down without selecting a potion to heat up your cauldron until it reaches the desired colour. Other times, you will see an icon of an arrow in a circle. Spin the control around to stir the pot to the requisite colour. Scoring is based on how many Greats you get, how many times you oversaturated or used the wrong ingredient and how quick you were. Duelling -------- This is straight forward. Use the spells outlined above to attack the other duelist until their health drops to 0. You can dodge the attacks but it is often easier just to use the move command to dodge as it moves just as fast and doesn't cause a reaction time. Charging often helps from a distance but is rather useless up close. Expelliarmus is a very useful spell in the beginning but it is often difficult to hit the opponent with it unless you run up close. Levicorpus is, by far, the most useful spell as it incapacitates the enemy for a long time, allowing you to get in a variety of hits. Scoring is based on how many hits you made, which spells you used and how much health you have remaining. *********** Walkthrough *********** ---------- The Burrow ---------- Yay, flying! Fly through all the markers! It's not particularly difficult as they all take up a third of the screen. Be careful not to bump into anything! At the end, you'll get the Quidditch Beginner's Luck Badge. When you're back on your feet, run to Ron and Hermione. Now, cast Wingardium Leviosa on the cauldron (the game teaches you how) and toss them into the pond. ---------------- Hogwarts Grounds ---------------- Walk forward with Luna. The game will draw your attention to Hogwarts Crests now. Pick it up and then run forward with Luna, following the trail of crests. Be sure to hit all the lamps with your magic to get mini-crests if you're looking to get all the crests! -------- Hogwarts -------- Summon Nearly Headless Nick and follow him to your Potions class. It's a long trip. Remember to collect as many minicrests and crests as you can along the way! ------- Potions ------- Now you get to concoct potions! Follow the onscreen help to complete your first potion. When you're done, you'll earn your Potions Beginner's Luck Badge. On your second go at potion-making, you'll learn some new tricks. Just follow the help onscreen. Remember not to overheat the potions. When you hear the bells and whistles for any step, stop right there. When you're done, exit and meet up with Ron. ------------- Duelling Club ------------- Head down the hallway and through the portrait. When you're out, head down the stairs and take the first right. Go through the door opposite the one you went through earlier to get into the Great Hall. Go up and talk to Angus. Now follow the onscreen help to learn how to duel. The easiest way to duel with Ron is to zig zag around the field and spam Stupefy. Afterwards, you get the Duelling Club Beginner's Luck Badge. You can use the board at the back of the Great Hall to arrange more duels if you like and finish off this minigame now. When you're done, meet Ron outside. ------------------- Dumbledore's Office ------------------- Go outside throught the doors opposite the Great Hall and turn sharply right to the griffin statue. Summon Nearly Headless Nick if you need some extra help. --------- Quidditch --------- Follow Katie down the hallways and through the clocktower. Follow the help to fix the lever. Follow Katie some more. You will end up in a duel with Goyle but it will be a short duel. Then, more Katie following! Once you're up on the broom fly through all the markers. It's still very easy and shouldn't pose much of a problem. Hit everything, including the dummies, and you should get a few badges when you're done. You can use the board on the left for some more quidditch. Otherwise, go outside and meet up with Ginny... and her nice skin. ------------ Potions Club ------------ Go straight up the stairs and then take a left. Run all the way across the field and then go through the nearest door to get in. Summon Nick if you need some extra help. Use the board on the side to make a potion and then you will get into the club. Now, to make your Shrinking Potion. You will learn a few more potion-making tricks and then be put to the test. ---------------- Shrinking Potion ---------------- Make your way back to the Quidditc Pitch. You will be ambushed by Crabbe. Take him out as you did to Goyle and you will be invited to Hufflepuff's DC. You will learn a new spell, Protego, and learn how to charge up spells. You can sign up for Hufflepuff duels in this area now. Go and meet Ginny now. --------------- Quidditch Match --------------- Make your way to the Quidditch Pitch using Nick if need be, and you will be stopped by some Slytherin on the way. Beat him and continue on. On the Quidditch Pitch, you will do some more flying through markers but there are lots more obstacles this time. Be careful. After that's through, you're in an actual match but it's still more of the same. Enjoy! --------- Fireworks --------- Go to the Boathouse to find Luna. There, you will learn how to use Incendio. On your way back to the castle, Luna will point out all the other boxes. Set them alight. ---------------- Slughorn's Party ---------------- Make your way to Slughorn's Party by following Luna. Now, more potion-making... except it's for punch. Follow the help to get what to do. Follow behind Snape and Draco but don't get too close or else you will have to restart. ---------- The Burrow ---------- Fight Belatrix with all the spells you've already learned. In the second fight, you can't get close. Try to knock her down with either Expelliarmus or a fully charged Stupefy, then let her have it. In the third fight, it's quite basic. You should not have any problems. ------------- Draco's Floor ------------- Make your way to the seventh floor. It's quite straightforward as your shortcut tells you to use him, and the staircase leads directly to the seventh floor. Then follow the hallways and take the first right you can, pretty far in. -------------------- Hermione and Potions -------------------- Go all the way to the Potions class. It's quite a winding path, so use Nick if you have to. Hermione's being a jerk, so you'll have to make the potion yourself. And, hey, it's Polyjuice Potion (doesn't that take a month to make?). ------------------- Dumbledore's Office ------------------- Make your way to Dumbledore's Office through the griffin in the courtyard just outside the Great Hall. You will end up duelling a Slytherin for a Gobstone. Give it back to the girl and you will go meet ol' Dumbles. --------------- Transfiguration --------------- Follow Hermione to your objective. Now, the Ravenclaw DC teaches you Levicorpus. Follow the help and you'll get it. You will have to duel after this but that spell you just earned makes it so easy, it's not even a challenge. After this, no duel should be difficult. The Ravenclaw DC is now open to you as well. ------------------ Quidditch Practice ------------------ Follow Nick through the shortcuts to reac the Quidditch Pitch. You'll do some more flying here. Nothing new. Meet Hermione outside when you're done. ------- Potions ------- Follow Ron to Potions class. You will be stopped by the arrogant Slytherin DC leader. You now get access to the Slytherin DC. Continue on following Ron. Eventually you will see Lavender. Go talk to her. Cast Wingardium Leviosa on Lavender's bag and collect her books with it. When that's done, keep following Ron. Now, make your potion. Then meet Ron outside. --------------- Astronomy Tower --------------- Make your way to the Astronomy Tower now. It's quite a roundabout way, so consult Nick to find the best way there. You'll end up in a double duel against Crabbe and Goyle. Levicorpus is all you really need. When that's through, pick up the lever near the gate and throw it at a wall to break it. Throw the pieces through the gate and the use Reparo to put them together again. Guide it into the slot to free yourself. ------- Lurvely ------- This... is new. Follow Harry and try not to stray too far from him. Once you get to Slughorn's, it's potion-making time. I had some glitches with the first use of the yellow bottle where it kept overflowing when I barely used it. --------- Quidditch --------- Make your way to the Quidditch Pitch. More quidditch. Warm-up and then game. ----- Katie ----- Go meet Katie in the Great Hall. Once you've talked to her, turn around and chase Draco. Once you catch up to him, you'll duel him. Use Levicorpus to make this fight a lot easier. ----- Lucky ----- Enjoy the scene. It's pretty funny. Enjoy the easiest duel in the game now as your spells are massively upgraded, always hit and you don't take any damage. Whee! Then you get the easiest potion-making ever! Everything's great! ------------------ Dumbldore's Office ------------------ Head to ol' Dumby's again. The Trouble Two are back so defeat them handily. That's about it, really. It's only one battle but your Luck potion has worn off so you won't enjoy your godliness from earlier. --------- Quidditch --------- Fly again as Ginny this time. Nothing new. Just fly through all the markers while knocking the other Seeker into walls. ----------------- Wiggenweld Potion ----------------- Head to the Potions Club and make some potion! Use the board on the side to activate it. This is a pretty difficult potion to make, so take deep breaths and relax. --------------- Astronomy Tower --------------- Make your way to the tower to meet up with ol' Dumbles, all the way at the very top. This is your last chance to wander around apparently, which isn't quite true as you are free to explore with no hinderances after you beat the game. Talk to him again to leave. ---------- Cave Story ---------- You have to knock the creatures away as they rear their ugly heads out of the water. Use Stupefy and just keep spamming it. This part isn't hard or challenging. All you have to do is keep running side to side while casting the spell, which finds it own targets. ------------- Mortal Kombat ------------- This is a series of duel against Death Eaters. You know what to do: Levicorpus and Stupefy, Stupefy, Stupefy. You should not have any trouble despite their large reserves of health. Congrats, you've beaten the game. Feel free to run around and explore and collect all the badges and crests. ***** Legal ***** This guide is Copyright (2009) to Invisible Assassin You have permission to print this guide as long as credit is given to me.
