1. Intro
________

This guide was made using the Steam version of Guns of Icarus (build 19).
It may or may not differ from the versions available at Muse or other
retailers. This guide covers the single player campaign only, might add
multiplayer later.

"In an apocalyptic steampunk future, you are a privateer ferrying goods
across treacherous airspace. Protect your airship and yourself from an
onslaught of pirates, and safely reach your destination to reap the
rewards.

Guns of Icarus combines aspects of first person shooters with time
management in a richly detailed steampunk setting. The effect is a
thrilling, frenetic aerial showdown that quickly takes hold and doesn't
let go."

5. The Icarus

Your airship. I will refer to the 6 different weapon slots as follows:

(Nose or Front of the ship)

                A

              B B

              C C

                D

         (Rear of the Ship)

A ~ Front
B ~ Front Sides
C ~ Back Sides
D ~ Back

Parts of the Icarus:
(Nose or Front of the Ship)

               A

               C

         (Rear of the Ship)

A ~ Zeppelin -- The balloon of the ship, when this is destroyed, you lose
B ~ Rigging -- A main support of the ship, when this is destroyed, you lose
C ~ Cargo Hold -- Place where you haul your cargo, less health = lose cargo
D ~ Left Engine -- The left engine, more health = more speed
E ~ Right Engine -- The right engine, more health = more speed

Interesting note: If you fall off the Icarus, you will appear next to the
back gun.

_________
6. Routes
_________

Once a route is completed you cannot change course, but are able to
replay previously completed routes to choose different rewards. You can
choose 1 reward per route.

Paritus -> Nalm (Clear Skies)
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 15,263 Meters
Cargo: 2000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Gatling gun
>80% 1 x Cannon
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster

This level is the tutorial of the game, its pretty easy. Just shoot down
the pirates and make repairs (if any are needed). It is impossible to fail
this mission. It should also be noted that this is the only level where the
enemy ships can't hide behind clouds or other weather.

Nalm -> Sylka (Sunset)
Difficulty: Easy
Distance:12,544 Meters
Cargo: 5000 Kilos
40-80% 1 x Gatling Gun or 1 x Cannon
>80% 2 x Cannon or 1 x Super Gatling Gun
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster

This level is almost the same as the tutorial level. Just shoot down the
pirates and they shouldn't damage much. If you have a cannon, it will
kill the pirate dusters in one hit if you can learn to aim the cannon
shots right.

Sylka -> Faull (Night Battle)
Difficulty: Easy
Distance:15,027 Meters
cargo: 5000 Kilos
40-80% 1x Super Gatling Gun or 1 x Super Cannon
>80% 1 x Rocket
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

You should make sure you have a weapon other than the (super) Gatling gun
in case you run into the Pirate Gunship. I recommend having at least 1
cannon and being able to hit the Dusters with it.

Faull -> Ramad (Aces High)
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 22,013 Meters
Cargo: 8,000 Kilos
40-80% 2 x Super Cannon or 2 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% Armor Upgrade or 1 x Tesla
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Ace

Gatling guns are not effective against Pirate Aces unless they are really
close range. When you shoot them with a Gatling gun, they move further
away. Cannons and Rockets are most effective.

Ramad -> Pila (Broadside Battle)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance:20,782 Meters
Cargo:8000 Kilos
40-80% 1 x Tesla or 1 x Super Cannon
>80% 1 x Super Tesla or 1 x Rocket
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Dusters
Pirate Frigates

I highly suggest the tesla for the frigates, you can somewhat ignore the
Dusters. If you have a cannon, you can eliminate the dusters fairly
quickly. I would suggest putting the tesla either at the front or back
as the frigates move back and forth between the front and back of the
Icarus.

Nalm -> Parrin (Gathering Storm)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,623
Cargo: 6,000 Kilos
40-80% 1 x Cannon
>80% 2 x Cannon
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

The number of enemy ships can be a little extreme. The Gatling gun can
quickly finish of many Dusters, however I relied heavily on the cannon
because the cannon 1 hit kills the Dusters. Try to keep repairs in the
green/high yellow as much as possible (most likely making all repairs
at the same time).

Parrin -> Kian (Snow Raid)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,052 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
40-80% 1 x Super Cannon
>80% 2 x Super Cannon
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

Gatling Guns take out the Dusters quickly and sometimes more than one at a
time. If a Gunship gets close enough, it can be taken down easily by a
Gatling gun, otherwise stick to the cannons. Try to kill as many as you
can (leaving only 1 or 2) before going to make repairs.

Kian -> Parrin (Snow Pursuit)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,052
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 1 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% 2 x Super Gatling Gun or Armor Upgrade
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Frigate

I suggest super cannon on the back and Gatling guns on the back sides, and
if needed a super cannon on one of the front sides (probably the front
right side). Due to the snow, ships may be hard to see. First of all,
you take off and have your engines destroyed, fix them asap (dont go the
long way drop down right onto the engine). 2 Frigates will be following
so fire the super cannon at one of them (remember which one you shoot at)
and when it needs to reload, jump down to the Gatling guns and take out as
many Dusters as you can. Then go back up to the super cannon and resume
fire upon the one you first shot at. When it needs to reload, if there are
any Dusters left, take care of them with Gatling guns. When the super
cannon reloads you will be able to destroy the first of the 2 frigates
(assuming all shots hit). Keep your engines in green as much as possible,
and make needed repairs. Start to fire upon the 2nd Frigate and repeat
the process of using the Gatling gun. By the time you take down both
frigates, they level will be almost over and more frigates will arrive, you
can ignore them and focus on repairing as they will not be able to take you
down in time.

Parrin -> Kesh (The Wastes)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 24,674
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 1 x Super Gatling
>80% 2 x Super Gatling
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

This route will be easier if you went the Kesh/Parrin route first. Just
keep your engines in the green as much as possible and shoot down as many
planes as you can before making repairs.

Sylka -> Kesh (Dark and Stormy) (Same as reverse Kesh -> Sylka)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance: 20,562 Meters
Cargo: 5,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Cannon or 1 x Super Cannon
>80% 1 x Tesla or Armor Upgrade
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Gunship

The rain and lightning may make it difficult to see the enemy ships. I
used cannons throughout the fight. If you're lucky, you might see enemy
ships be hit by lightning. The only enemies are gunships, 2 cannon hits
to take them down. Never really had to repair much, although I didn't let
many enemies survive long enough to shoot.

Kesh -> Anvala (Cyclone)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,328 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 1 x Super Gatling Gun or 1 x Super Cannon
>80% Armor Upgrade or 1 x Rocket
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Dusters
Pirate Gunships

Gatling guns (super if possible) are the best choice here. Lots of pirate
dusters, and a few gunships towards the very end. Engines seem to be the
main target here, shouldn't be a problem if you have Gatling guns on all
the sides and (a super if possible) in the back. I didn't use the front
gun much.

Anvala -> Ellius (Dust Storm)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 20,996 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% 1 x Tesla or 2 x Super Cannon
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Dusters

The name of the route is a horrible pun. There is a dust storm going on,
reducing visibility. Oh yeah, and the large waves of Dusters. Lots of them.
Super Gatling guns on front and rear are almost a must just because of the
increased rate of fire. No other weapons, just Gatling guns will do
(except cannons if you're feeling lucky).

Anvala -> Sahn (Heat Lightning)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance: 22,781 Meters
Cargo: 8,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 1 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% 2 x Super Gatling Gun
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Gunships
Pirate Dusters

Lots of Gunships in this route, (super) cannons on the front and back,
and (Super) Gatling guns on all the sides. Pirate Dusters show up on
sides, Pirate Gunships show up from front and rear.

Faull -> Virna (Sunrise) (Same as reverse Virna -> Faull)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance: 16,533 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% Armor Upgrade or 2 x Super Cannon
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

There's waves of enemies with few breaks in this level, plan weaponry
accordingly. I recommend a super Gatling gun on the back as that is where
many of them end up after making their first pass on the Icarus.

Virna -> Tura (Scorched) (Same as reverse Tura -> Virna)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance: 20,802 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Super Cannon
>80% 1 x Rocket or 1 x Tesla
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster

If not taken down quickly, the frequent waves of Dusters will make this
route difficult. Only (Super) Gatling guns needed.

Sahn -> Tura (Ashes)
Difficulty: Medium
Distance 18,045
Cargo 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% 2 x Super Cannon or Armor Upgrade
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Frigate
Pirate Duster

There's only one frigate, might be hard to take down unless you have a
super cannon or a tesla. Otherwise there's a couple of waves of Dusters.

Ellius -> Urhai (Eye of the Storm)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,004 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 2x Super Cannon or 1 x Rocket
>80% 1 x Multi Rocket
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Ace
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship
Pirate Frigate

This level is difficult because of the wide variety of enemies. Your main
focus would be taking down the frigate(s) before they can do any major
damage.

Urhai -> Tura (Acid Rain)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 21,709 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% 1 x Super Gatling Gun
>80% 1 x Super Tesla or Armor Upgrade
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Duster
Pirate Gunship

Frequent waves of Dusters in large numbers, later gunships will start to
appear. Having the Multi Rocket from the last route helps. I suggest
placing the multi rocket as the rear weapon. When the first wave appears,
it will be from the front, take as many down as you can and run to the rear
and wait for them to come around. Fire all the shots of the multi rocked,
but not all in one area (especially true for larger groups). While the
multi rocket is reloading, repair things or switch to different weapons.
Repeat firing multi rocket into large groups and the route will be easy.

Tura -> Faberia (War Zone)
Difficulty: Hard
Distance: 27,304 Meters
Cargo: 10,000 Kilos
Rewards:
40-80% Armor Upgrade or 1 x Tesla
>80% 1 x Super Tesla or 2 x Super Cannons
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Ace
Pirate Frigate
Pirate Gunship

If you have the Multi Rocket, it's easy to take down the frigate and the
gunships/aces. If you don't have the multi rocket, you'll want to have
super cannons. Aces and gunships come in frequent waves, few in numbers.

Faberia or Pila -> The Breach
Difficulty: Survival
Distance: Till Death
Cargo: 10,000
Rewards: None
Enemies Encountered:
Pirate Ace
Pirate Duster
Pirate Frigate
Pirate Gunship

Use what you learned and get as far as you can, taking as many pirates down
with you as you can.

__________
7. Enemies
__________

Pirate Duster

The most common enemy of the game, low amounts of health make them weak
against pretty much any weapon. In large numbers they can take down the
Icarus very quickly.

Best weapon to fight with: Gatling Gun or Super Gatling Gun. Cannons are
also effective.

Pirate Gunship

Average amount of health. Goes down after 2 cannon shots. Gatling Gun is
effective only if they are close enough. Fires less frequently than Pirate
Dusters.

Best weapon to fight with: Cannon or Super Cannon. Normal Rockets are not
recommended due to large reload time with few shots.

Pirate Ace

Similar to a Gunship, differences are that it moves faster and can pull
some 180 degree turns.

Best Weapon to fight with: Cannon or Super Cannon. Rockets are also
effective because of their homing nature.

Pirate Frigate

Looks like a mini Icarus. A slow moving zeppelin with a powerful attack
and a high amount of health.

Best Weapon to fight with: (Super) Tesla or (Super) Rockets.
(Super) Cannons are also effective.
