There were a-b-c buttons on the sega controller, in this game, b is the menu/previous
menu button, c is a all purpose select type button.

Chapter I
I prefer the Paladin.

Chapter II: What's the deal
The point of the game is to capture 20 or so villains hiding in various castles.
If you want to get an additional payment on each villain you must go to a town and
make sure you have the proper bounty out on them. Each castle has a corresponding
town and if you go to gather information it will tell you who is occupying the castle
(a few of the castles are very far from their towns). Each villain and various pieces
of treasure reveal parts of a treasure map that leads you to a game winning treasure.
You don't have to capture all the villains to get a pretty good idea of where to look
for the treasure.

Chapter III: The beginning
At the start, go up to the castle above you and pay for the biggest army you can get
and then go to the left and loop above the castle. You are going to fight 2 or 3
(probably) weak armies and there will either be treasure or a recruitment center above
the castle.

Monsters roam the map and you go in to a battle mode when your touch them. On the map
they are represented by their best unit so you can roughly tell their overall strength.
(I can't find a monster list online, so you will have to learn the hard way which units
are best)

Chapter IV: Combat
For combat you usually move one square at a time by using the arrows and c (each unit
has different rates of movement and some fly), you can also just hit c on the unit to
wait, or if it can shoot, hitting c on the unit brings up the bullseye cursor.

the best thing to do is load up on ranged units (3 out of 5 army spaces) and shoot the
opposition a bunch of times before you fight them hand to hand. Ranged units at the
beginning include archers, orcs, elves and later include giants, druids, archmages and
others.

Hitting b brings up a menu where you can use magic.

Chapter V: Still the beginning
If you see anywhere to purchase ranged units, do so, otherwise return to the castle and
replace any units you may have lost and then go to the town below the castle and rent a
boat. If you ever go inland and lose track of your boat, you may go to any other town,
cancel the boat rental and then re-up. Towns are a source of boats, magic spells, bounty
contracts, and info on who is occupying the local castle and their army.

At this point you are going to be poking around the map fighting weak armies and gathering
unguarded treasure. After you get above about 8,000 gold (it summarizes your accounts at
the end of the week) you're going to want to choose the second option when you find treasure
and distribute the it amongst the peasants to raise your leadership level, this increases
how many troops you can control.

The game is never going to let you buy more units than you can control, but occasionally
troops will join you and if you are already maxed out, the units will be out of your control
when you go into battle. Also, ghosts and vampires gain units as they kill and can get out
of your control if you end up with too many in a battle.

If you've chosen anybody except the sorceress, you will have to pay 5000 to learn magic at
a randomly placed cave on the first continent (not really important until you move on to
castles on the second continent).

There are four continents and you get to the others by first finding their maps and then
sailing away from the continent you are currently on. If you're not doing anything else,
sail to the next continent as soon as you find the map. You will find better treasure and
will be able to recruit stronger monsters. Avoid fighting at first, as those monsters will
also be stronger.

Once you have a decent army you can beginning besieging castles. Remember to purchase
siege weapons from a town first.
