It is not necessary to close assault with many units if the defender is disrupted. Use most of your units to disrupt the enemy by fire, and then close assault. Bombard the enemy before engaging them in close assault or direct fire. Fire your artillery and call in air strikes before you get down to the nitty-gritty rifle, machine gun, and short-range cannon fire. In Normandy '44, knowledge is a very powerful tool. Use reconnaissance units to feel out the enemy positions and then bring up the line combat units. Never lead with your tanks.
